Reports to : JFK Principal
Job Goal: Responsible for creating a classroom environment that fosters, promotes and develops an understanding of the relationship of healthy body function and exercise; that motivates each student to cultivate physical fitness, and appropriate social and emotional adjustment; that discovers and develop talents of students in physical achievement; and that develops strength, skill, agility, poise, and coordination in individual, dual and team physical activities and sports, in accordance with each student’s ability.
Qualifications:
1. Must meet all licensure and highly qualified requirements as set forth by the Massachusetts Department of Education (Physical Education, (K-6).
2. Prior successful experience in a public school as a physical education teacher and in a classroom setting at the elementary level.
Performance Responsibilities:
1. Teaches knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, and individual, dual or team sports.
2. Works cooperatively with other physical education teachers in planning and implementing a balanced physical education program.
3. Analyzes, demonstrates, and explains basic skills, knowledge and strategies of formal sports, games, rhythms, and fundamentals of body movement.
4. Develops lesson plans and supplementary materials aligned to MA Curriculum Frameworks for Comprehensive Health and Physical Education.
5. Provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student and subgroups of students.
6. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment in the physical education areas.
7. Provides appropriate safety instruction and makes safety checks on equipment and field areas to ensure the overall safety of students.
8. Evaluates each student’s growth in physical skills, knowledge and contribution in team sports; prepares report cards and keeps appropriate records.
9. Maintains control of storage and use of school property.
10. Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress.
11. Supervises students in out of classroom activities during the assigned working day.
12. Maintains professional competence by attending staff meetings, curriculum development meetings, plcs and other professional activities.
13. Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Principal or other appropriate administrator.
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually, in accordance with accepted district guidelines/procedures in alignment with state mandates and expectations.
Terms Of Employment: 182 days per year
