SUMMARY:
The Fabrication Department Manager is a working manager accountable for the overall image and professional performance of the Model-Build Shop and Metal Fabrication Departments. The position is responsible for the operation, maintenance, growth and improvement of the department. The department is responsible for both internal and external customer jobs.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: (Other duties may be assigned.)
- Responsible for the production and management of manufactured components.
- Involved with the process selection discussions and coordinate design activities with
engineering for structural integrity and usage applications.
- Assist in development of technical solutions to design problems that require regular use of ingenuity and creativity.
- Train and develop the staff in effective processes with focus on requirements, best practices, quality & timing.
- Must have an understanding of the materials and processes utilized in the use of products as well as associated testing techniques to validate product structural integrity.
- Skills and ability to organize, execute, support other departments, and supervisors in completion of assigned tasks as well as lessons learned from failure and follow-up.
- Maintain a relationship with suppliers of product and their experts to stay informed in the usage of the latest materials and technologies for the team.
- Responsible for direction, development, and motivation of departmental staff
- Conduct employee performance evaluations and merit reviews as dictated by Prefix corporate policy
- Responsible for the generation of departmental plans, objectives and their subsequent deployment of resources
- Responsible for the completion of project or applicable project task at or under budget and within scheduled time frame
- Understand the direction and needs of the Model-Build Shop and Metal Fabrication department customers and work with them to meet their needs and objectives
- Maintain clean and safe work environment following 5S standards
- Maintain department inventories and arrange for proper disposal of all used materials
- Directs and oversees all Model-Build and Metal Fabrication tasks as assigned
- Coordinate intradepartmental project management activity with all Prefix Project Managers
- Network at the industry level and stay abreast of applicable technological and procedural advances
- Make recommendations for upgrades or changes as needed
- Continually focus on improving operational efficiencies
- Develop detailed information needed for quotes requiring Model-Build Shop and Metal Fabrication support
- Provide inter-departmental support
- Assist in any task assigned or approved by the Prototype Manufacturing Operations Manager. Tasks will be assigned according to employee availability and individual talents
QUALIFICATIONS:
Extensive background in plastics model making with a minimum of 5 years hands-on experience. Strong administrative, managerial, and interpersonal skills required. Ability to supervise personnel and coordinate workflow to meet or exceed predetermined timelines and quality levels. A minimum of 3 years supervisory experience is required. High School or GED equivalent required. A certificate from an accredited technical or industrial trade school and an advanced college course work a plus. Incumbent must possess basic hand tools for the position and upgrade such tools as required to complete the tasks assigned. Must be proficient in budgeting time and allocating resources.
DESIRED SPECIALIZED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
• CAD – UG, SolidWorks, SolidEdge, Mechanical Desktop
• Microsoft Office – Project, Excel, Word, Outlook, Tasks, Teams
