Industrial Controls and Automation Technician

A day in this role

You walk the production floor at start-up, listening for vibration changes and scanning status lights. A conveyor briefly hesitates—you trace it to a motor circuit and bring it back online. Later, you and a teammate rig and align a new extruder, complete the required hookups, and place it into service. Your afternoon is dedicated to a critical preventive maintenance teardown on a chiller and boiler loop—dismantling, cleaning, re-assembling, lubricating, and calibrating instrumentation so the system returns to peak condition. Before clocking out, you review PM logs and line up parts for tomorrow’s work on a furnace exhaust system.

What you'll handle

• Apply multiple craft skills—mechanical, electrical, welding, pipe fitting, and machining—to install, fabricate, troubleshoot, repair, move, and maintain production equipment, facilities equipment, buildings, and systems.
• Diagnose and service complex mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment and systems, including motors, pumps, piping systems, conveyor systems, furnaces, exhaust systems, chillers, boilers, extruders, chemical tanks, production machinery, and instrumentation equipment.
• Install new machinery and equipment; move and reposition assets to support layout changes.
• Perform operations such as rigging, moving, erecting, aligning, completing necessary hookups, and placing equipment into proper operating condition.
• Execute preventive maintenance of all types, including critical work requiring extensive dismantling, reassembly, precise adjustments, lubrication, and/or calibration.

What makes you successful

• Strong, demonstrable knowledge of electronics, electrical, HVAC, hydraulics, machining, and mechanical theory.
• Proven communication skills (oral and written), solid computer proficiency, the ability to juggle priorities, and a sharp eye for detail.
• Preferably, experience supporting an industrial fluid application facility.

Physical and tool expectations

• Stand for extended periods without sitting; regularly stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, lift, or crawl.
• Lift/move up to 10 lbs regularly, 25 lbs frequently, and 50 lbs occasionally.
• Provide personal hand tools and a toolbox.
• Hold a valid Forklift Operator’s license or be able to pass required training.

Education and experience

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 3–5 years of general production maintenance experience at the journeyman level, covering mechanical, electrical, welding, fabrication, and machining to install, fabricate, troubleshoot, repair, move, and maintain a wide range of production and related equipment, facilities equipment, buildings, and systems.
• Preferred certifications in electronics, electrical, HVAC, machining, and/or mechanical theory.
