Duties
- Receive incoming emergency calls via multi-line phone systems, demonstrating excellent phone etiquette and customer service skills.
- Assess callers' needs using established protocols such as Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) procedures and provide clear, concise instructions.
- Utilize Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) software to accurately record incident details, including medical terminology, location data via GPS or GIS systems, and caller information.
- Coordinate with law enforcement agencies and fire departments using radio communication systems to ensure swift response times.
- Monitor GPS tracking to dispatch the closest available EMS units efficiently, maintaining situational awareness at all times.
- Manage conflict situations with professionalism and negotiation skills, ensuring calm communication during high-stress emergencies.
- Document all communications thoroughly, including transcription of calls when necessary, maintaining detailed logs for legal and operational purposes.
- Prioritize calls based on severity, applying analysis skills to determine appropriate response levels while managing multiple lines simultaneously.
Experience
- Previous experience in EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) roles or emergency medical dispatch is highly preferred.
- Familiarity with GIS (Geographic Information Systems), GPS technology, and computer-aided dispatch (CAD) software enhances operational efficiency.
- Knowledge of police dispatch procedures, law enforcement protocols, and first aid/CPR certification is advantageous.
- Strong communication skills are essential for effective phone triage, conflict management, and clear reporting.
- Demonstrated ability to handle high-pressure situations with professionalism and precision through excellent typing speed and technical proficiency.
- Experience working with telephony systems, multi-line phones, and data entry tools is beneficial for seamless workflow management.
- Ability to analyze complex information quickly and accurately while maintaining composure under stress is critical for success in this role.
