Job Description _Clinical Laboratory Scientist
Summary of position
The Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) is an on-site position in a CLIA/CAP-certified laboratory at Predicine. This role involves hands-on performance of all aspects of pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic phases of the NGS laboratory operation, in accordance with CLIA regulations.
Duties & Responsibilities:
In this position, you will be responsible for the daily operations of the clinical NGS laboratory, including but not limited to:
- Perform high-complex molecular genetic testing, including DNA/RNA extraction, library preparation, and next-generation-sequencing (NGS), on patient specimens. Execute all steps from sample processing to result reporting in accordance with company analytical SOPs.
- Demonstrates proficiency, competency and strong understanding of fundamental clinical laboratory procedures with minimal supervision.
- Participate in training activities and take on training responsibilities as needed.
- Assist in the evaluation of new test procedures and communicate findings to the leadership team to support implementation.
- Perform and, when required, report test results for assigned clinical laboratory procedures (both automated and manual) prior to review by the laboratory director, consultant, or supervisory team.
- Perform troubleshooting, routine maintenance, and problem resolution; demonstrate strong communication skills and the ability to address job-related issues effectively.
- Maintain accurate and complete records in accordance with the Quality Management System to ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.
- Assist in inventory management of supplies and reagents, and notify appropriate personnel when par levels are low.
- Conduct all work in a professional, cooperative, and courteous manner in accordance with established standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including flexibility to adjust work schedules or shifts based on business needs
Qualifications/ Education/ Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Science in a work-related discipline/field from an accredited college or university.
- Minimum (2-3) years of experience in a clinical reference laboratory.
- Experience with computers, including Microsoft Word, Excel and electronic mail.
- Current California Clinical Laboratory Scientist License (CLS) generalist or Clinical Genetic Molecular Biologist Scientist License (CGMBS). Meets California state requirements for mandatory CEUs.
