Position Overview: The Manufacturing Engineer oversees plant equipment to maximize uptime, scheduling methods and works with process engineering to drive the optimum (Overall Operational Efficiency). The Manufacturing Engineer is accountable for a culture of continuous improvement; using technical and leadership skills to create the improvements, educate the team and achieve the expected results. The Manufacturing Engineer will drive safety, throughput and cycle time improvements to establish new production standards. The Manufacturing Engineer will need the management skills to participate, as required, in daily plant operations including production and manufacturing, maintenance, engineering support, safety, regulatory compliance, inventory control, and warehousing. This position is ideal for a candidate that wishes to pursue a management career.
Essential Job Functions
- Assist Plant Manager and Production Supervisor in the development and formulation of long and short range planning, policies, programs, and objectives.
- Oversee plant maintenance and supervise maintenance staff
- Works to improve our method of production scheduling to assure production areas are fully utilized
- Develops the manufacturing plan and establishes procedures for maintaining high standards of manufacturing operations to ensure that products conform to established customer and company quality standards
- Determines the optimum employee level with least amount of overhead and raw material costs to meet annual budgetary plan
- Directs and coordinates various programs essential to manufacturing procedures (e.g., training, safety, housekeeping, costs reduction worker involvement, security, etc.)
- Identifies waste and missed opportunities, recommends corrective actions, and implements changes to improve productivity and reduce cost and scrap, monitor scrap and rework. Directs the establishment and maintenance of production standards.
- Participate in the interviewing of potential employees and making hiring decisions
- Utilizes and maintains manufacturing performance reporting such as production schedules, efficiency reports, quality reports, housekeeping audits, and cost reports. Uses a data driven approach for improvement of performance as measured by these metrics.
- A willingness to work hands on in the plant to better understand processes and alleviate constraints
- Other duties as assigned by management
Skills/Qualifications
- BS in Engineering or BS in Management with demonstrable technical skills
- 10 years of experience in manufacturing management, preferably in a process-oriented operation
- A minimum of 5 years of experience managing a significant segment of a large manufacturer or the entire operation of a smaller manufacturer
- Strong computer skills including the ability to prepare spreadsheets and use Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, Power Point and/or Access) to analyze data and trends
- Demonstrated understanding of the principles and applications associated with manufacturing operations, industrial maintenance, and engineering
- Previous experience/best practices implementing and using continuous improvement/lean tools such as Six Sigma, 5-S, Lean Manufacturing, Transactional Lean, etc. to drive improvement.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent planning and organizational skills, with the ability to work with teams and lead decision-making processes in a team environment.
Salary : $75,000 - $85,000
