What are the responsibilities and job description for the Financial Advisor (Career Changers Encouraged to Apply / Training Provided!) position at Precision Planning Group?
Do you want to build something of your own — or just have a job?
Precision Planning Group (PPG) – St. Louis, MO
This isn’t a typical financial advisor role — and it’s not for everyone.
At Precision Planning Group, you’re building your own business within a team that helps you grow it. The work is centered around relationships, conversations, and helping people make important financial decisions over time.
Precision Planning Group is a team of advisors within Northwestern Mutual, where you’ll begin developing your practice and building your business.
For the right person, it can be incredibly rewarding.
What This Role Really Is
At its core, this role is about working with people.
You’ll spend your time:
- Having conversations with individuals and families about their financial goals
- Understanding where they are and where they want to go
- Helping guide decisions around investments, protection, and long-term planning
- Building relationships that grow over time
This is not transactional work. It’s relationship-driven and built on trust.
How It Starts
Like any business, this one starts with conversations.
For most advisors, that begins with people they already know — friends, family, and existing connections — and expands over time through introductions, referrals, and new relationships.
We help you build this the right way so it feels natural and sustainable.
A Note on the Role
This isn’t a product-driven or high-pressure sales job.
That said, it does require the ability to lead conversations, build trust, and help people take action on important financial decisions.
If you’re comfortable talking with people, asking good questions, and guiding decisions, you’ll do well here.
How It Works
You’ll begin your career within Northwestern Mutual, where you’ll develop the core skills needed to build a successful advisory practice.
As you grow, you’ll do so within the Precision Planning Group environment — working alongside our team, learning from experienced advisors, and building your business in a more collaborative, supported setting.
While every advisor ultimately builds their own practice, the team you’re surrounded by — and how you develop — makes a meaningful difference.
What Makes PPG Different
Our advisors don’t just focus on one area of planning.
We work with clients across:
- Investments
- Insurance and risk management
- Tax-efficient strategies
- Long-term and legacy planning
We also emphasize long-term relationships — many of our advisors work with clients for decades as their lives evolve.
You’re not doing this alone. There’s real mentorship, collaboration, and support as you build your practice.
Who This Is For
This tends to be a strong fit for people who:
- Want to build something of their own
- Are comfortable having real conversations with people
- Take ownership of their results
- Are coachable and willing to learn
- Can stay consistent, especially early on
This is not a fit for someone looking for a highly structured role with a guaranteed path.
