Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated 2nd Shift Swiss Machinist to join our dynamic manufacturing team. In this role, you will operate and set up precision CNC (Computer Numerical Control) Swiss lathes, ensuring the production of high-quality components with exceptional accuracy. Duties
- Set up and operate CNC Swiss lathes, ensuring proper tooling and machine calibration for each job.
- Interpret detailed blueprints, GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing), and technical drawings to produce precise parts.
- Program CNC machines using CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing) software and manual G-code adjustments to optimize machining processes.
- Conduct routine inspections using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and coordinate measuring machines (CMM) to verify part dimensions.
- Perform electrical discharge machining (EDM) operations when required for complex features or hard materials.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring all tools and tooling are properly stored and maintained.
- Collaborate with team members on continuous improvement initiatives aligned with lean manufacturing principles.
- Troubleshoot machining issues promptly using mechanical knowledge, hand tools, power tools, and welding skills as needed to resolve defects or equipment malfunctions.
- Assist in assembly processes when necessary, ensuring parts meet quality standards before final inspection or shipment.
Requirements
- Proven experience operating CNC Swiss lathes with Fanuc controls or similar systems.
- Strong understanding of blueprint reading, GD&T principles, and mechanical drawings.
- Proficiency in CNC programming using CAM software; familiarity with manual G-code editing is a plus.
- Knowledge of electrical discharge machining (EDM), plastics injection molding, and precision measurement instruments such as calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and CMMs.
- Mechanical aptitude with hands-on skills in tooling setup, hand tools, power tools, welding, and basic math calculations.
- Ability to read and interpret complex technical documentation accurately.
- Experience working within manufacturing environments emphasizing lean principles for efficiency and waste reduction.
- Valid forklift certification is preferred for material handling tasks.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively within a team-oriented setting.
