Responsibilities
- Perform TIG welding on aluminum, stainless steel, and other metals as required, producing high-quality welds that meet project specifications.
- Set up and adjust TIG welding equipment, including amperage, AC/DC settings, shielding gas flow, tungsten selection, and filler metal selection.
- Weld thin-gauge sheet metal and components of varying thicknesses while controlling heat input, distortion, and burn-through.
- Prepare weld joints through cleaning, deburring, grinding, and accurate fit-up to support weld quality and consistency.
- Read and interpret blueprints, fabrication drawings, weld symbols, and applicable welding procedures.
- Position, clamp, tack, and weld components while maintaining alignment, squareness, and dimensional tolerances.
- Use back purging when required for stainless steel welds.
- Inspect completed welds for appearance and visible defects, and verify finished assemblies against drawing requirements.
- Use calipers, micrometers, squares, and other measuring tools to confirm dimensions and fit.
- Operate hand tools, power tools, cutting equipment, and fabrication machinery to prepare and assemble components.
- Perform MIG welding and other fabrication tasks as needed to support production.
- Maintain welding equipment and a clean, organized work area while following all shop safety procedures.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated TIG welding experience, with strong skills in aluminum and stainless steel preferred.
- Ability to produce clean, consistent TIG welds on thin-gauge materials and precision fabricated assemblies.
- Working knowledge of TIG equipment setup, tungsten preparation, filler metals, shielding gases, and material preparation.
- Strong understanding of heat control, weld sequencing, and techniques for minimizing distortion.
- Ability to read fabrication drawings, interpret weld symbols, and follow written welding procedures.
- Proficiency in fit-up, layout, measuring, and the use of common fabrication tools.
- Attention to detail and pride in both weld quality and finished appearance.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate with the fabrication team to meet production schedules.
- Commitment to safe work practices and proper use of personal protective equipment.
- MIG welding experience is a plus; TIG welding proficiency is the primary requirement.
