Position Summary:

The Senior DevOps Engineer will design, build, and operate cloud infrastructure and deployment platforms with a current focus on Microsoft Azure, while helping prepare and execute an eventual transition to Amazon Web Services (AWS). This role is responsible for creating reliable, secure, and scalable infrastructure; owning Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipelines and environment automation; and improving system observability, resilience, and operational excellence. The Senior DevOps Engineer will partner closely with application, data, and platform engineers to enable rapid, safe delivery of production systems and will play a key role in defining cloud standards, migration strategy, and best practices across both cloud providers. At this time, candidates who would work in the following states will not be considered for this role: AZ, CA, CO, CT, DE, DC, HI, IL, MA, ME, MI, MD, MN, NV, NJ, NY, RI, VT, and WA.

Essential Functions:

  • Design, build, and operate cloud infrastructure and platform services in Azure; plan and execute migration patterns to AWS.
  • Own CI/CD and environment automation (build, test, deploy, release) to enable safe, repeatable delivery.
  • Implement and evolve observability (metrics, logs, traces, alerting) to improve reliability, performance, and incident response.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production issues across cloud, networking, CI/CD, and platform services; contribute to on-call/incident practices.
  • Partner cross-functionally (application, data, platform) through sprint ceremonies to define standards and uplift delivery practices.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • 5 years in DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), or Platform Engineering roles supporting production systems.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure cloud services, including compute, networking, storage, IAM (Identity and Access Management), and monitoring.
  • Practical experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) or demonstrated ability to design for multi-cloud portability and future migration.
  • Extensive experience with Infrastructure as Code, preferably Terraform (ARM/Bicep or CloudFormation beneficial).
  • Experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation for modern applications or data workflows.
  • Strong understanding of containerization and orchestration (Docker; Kubernetes on AKS/EKS).
  • Experience implementing observability (monitoring, logging, alerting) and contributing to incident response for distributed systems.
  • Proven ability to debug complex production issues across infrastructure, deployments, and application layers, and to collaborate across engineering, data, and security teams.

Desirable But Not Essential:

  • Experience planning or supporting cloud migration initiatives between Azure and AWS, or from on-premises environments to the cloud.
  • Familiarity with cost optimization, capacity planning, or cloud financial operations.
  • Exposure to data-intensive workloads such as data pipelines, batch processing, or crawling systems.
  • Experience with secrets management or policy‑as‑code frameworks and general cloud compliance practices.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in related discipline or combination of equivalent education and experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science preferred.
  • 5 - 7 years of experience in similar field.
  • 5 years of experience in DevOps, SRE, or Platform Engineering roles with exposure to both AWS and Azure preferred.
