Press Machine Set-Up Technician

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Set stops on machine bed, changes dies, and adjusts components, such as ram or power press, when making multiple or successive passes.
• Selects and positions flat, block, radius, or special purpose die sets into ram and bed of machine, using hoist, crane, measuring instruments and hand tools.
• Installs, aligns, and secures gears, holding fixtures, dies to machine bed, using gauges, templates, feelers, shims, and hand tools.
• Plans sequence of operations, applying knowledge of physical properties of metal.
• Measures workpiece and verifies dimensions and weight, using micrometer, template, straightedge, and scale.
• Follow detailed verbal and written instruction pertaining to the operation or assembly.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Able to read micrometers, gages and blueprints.
• Effectively communicate and understand job instructions both verbally and written in the English language.
• Preferred: HS diploma/GED equivalent
• Preferred: Mechanical or Manufacturing experience

Physical Abilities

• Must be able to lift up to 70 lbs.
• Push, pull, maneuver materials up to 30 lbs.
• Frequent bending, leaning from the waist
• Frequent reaching with arms; using hands to insert, remove, manipulate items
• Standing, walking 100% of the time
• Wears safety toed shoes
• Using hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials, and manipulating things.

Work Environment

The employee is exposed to high noise levels from operating machines, physical hazards from moving equipment and machine parts, nuisance dust, and skin exposure to cutting and drawing oils. The environment is not air-conditioned during summer months.
