What are the responsibilities and job description for the Machinist position at Precision Castparts?
Primary Functions
- Set-up and operate various types of machine tools and performs fitting and assembly work on fixtures and parts as required.
- Must be able to lift 25 pounds
- Must be able to push/pull 25 lbs.
- Must be able to bend and squat at least 10 times per hour
- Must be able to climb stairs, ladders, and work from elevated platforms

- Various types of precision measuring tools.

- Blue Prints and Sketches
- Fixtures for furnaces and plant equipment.
- Vacuum Seals
- Replacement parts for plant equipment.
- Replacement parts for vacuum furnaces, stools, molds, & hot tops.
- Works with hi-temperature alloys ferrous, non-ferrous, and non-metallic materials.
- Foreman
- Receives instructions, prints, sketches, and Work Orders.
- Lays out and performs various machining operations working from prints and sketches, determining working procedure.
- Checks incoming material from outside machinists to see that it comforms to specifications.
- Make sketches of parts to be machined, as required.
- Using machinist’s handbooks makes his own calculations as required regarding fits and tapers.
- Chooses the proper tool for any particular jobs and maintains tool in proper condition to perform the job efficiently.
- Works to precision tolerances and finishes, as specified adjusting stops, feeds, and speeds, using precision measuring instruments.
- Assembles fixtures performing the necessary fitting and aligning to close tolerances.
- Maintains a clean and safe work area.
