Mission
As an Automation Engineer you will be part of a dynamic technical team driving manufacturing efficiency and productivity in a plant environment. You will apply applicable technical knowledge from cumulative training and hands on experience to design and implement new automation systems and improve existing systems.

As an Automation Engineer you will be part of a dynamic technical team driving manufacturing efficiency and productivity in a plant environment. You will apply applicable technical knowledge from cumulative training and hands on experience to design and implement new automation systems and improve existing systems.
Principle Accountabilities
- Understand automation safety requirements and be responsible for keeping all systems in a safe working order. If an issue arises, you will shut down the system and work with support staff to resolve the issue.
- Provide technical assistance and leadership to Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, System Integrators, and Equipment Manufactures.
- Coordinate system support and preventative maintenance activities with other Technicians, Engineers, Maintenance, System Integrators, Equipment Manufacturers, and Operations personnel.
- Use knowledge of automation and plant processes to troubleshoot and resolve equipment and process errors. Act as a liaison with System Integrators and Equipment Manufacturers. Communicate fault recovery procedures to Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering teams.
- Work with Operations and Engineering to understand the process and determine if applying automation is a viable option. Develop solutions to complex problems by applying a wide variety of new or existing techniques, processes, and procedures. Work independently with input and periodic review by peers and manager.
- Plan, submit, schedule, and complete Continuous Improvement Projects, Feasibility Studies, and New Automated Systems. Track timeline, budget, and resources to milestone plan.
- Gather, record, analyze, and summarize data in various formats. Prepare technical reports of results. Track performance of existing systems and evaluate existing processes to support new automation initiatives.
- Create or revise system and process documentation. Develop documentation standards and templates.
- Support Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering teams with training as needed.
- Ability to work modified schedules to support development, installation, and system support schedules.
- Ability to support 24/7 plant operation. This may include occasional contact during off-shift hours.
- Other duties as assigned.
- BS degree in Engineering (or equivalent experience) with 1-2 years of relevant work experience.
- Experience in operation, troubleshooting, or programming of an automated system with one or more of the following components: Robotics (Fanuc, ABB), Controls (Allen Bradley, Siemens), and/or SCADA (Ignition, Wonderware) preferred, but not required.
- Project Management experience preferred, but not required.
- General knowledge of investment casting process preferred, but not required.
- Ability to apply and adapt a wide variety of technical procedures under general directions and to complete work independently.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills. Technical writing experience preferred.
- Basic knowledge of lean manufacturing principals.
- Six Sigma Green Belt certified or willingness to become certified.
- Working knowledge of the following software packages: Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Drafting and Modeling (AutoCAD, Solidworks), Statistical Analysis (MiniTab or JMP), MS Project, and MS Visio.
