The use of Leads at PCC Schlosser is an approved option to assist Supervisors/Managers in performing daily routines. These "assignments" are intended to help in those situations where there is not adequate coverage by a supervisor, yet a full-time supervisor is not warranted.

Lead positions must be approved in advance of offering the assignment, by the General Manager, Operations Manager and Human Resources Manager.

Lead assignments generally do not include external job postings and may not include internal job postings, job descriptions, or other formal selection processes. They are "assigned" positions and may be offered and retracted by the supervisor, at will, based on performance, business conditions, and/or changing needs of the department/plant.

Leads are intended to be "working leads" in that they are expected to carry out their normal job title functions with some modifications by their supervisor. The additional responsibilities of the lead are generally defined by the supervisor and typically include the following:

  • Maintain overall process flow and ensure operations stay on schedule
  • Ensure lines are dipping on time according to production requirements
  • Maintain 6S standards across all assigned areas
  • Adjust and move operators based on priorities and dip times
  • Communicate updates, issues, and shift performance to incoming day shift leadership
  • Verify daily staffing and report any staffing issues/needs to Supervisor
  • Prioritize workflow and keep key parts moving for TP plan or LTPO recovery
  • Assign work to operators
  • Audit the quality and quantity of work performed by operators
  • Answer questions regarding the processing of parts
  • Move operators to different job assignments that they are qualified to perform
  • Provide input to Supervisors regarding operator punctuality, tardiness, and other aspects of overall performance
  • Assume responsibility of routine operations in a Supervisor's absence
  • Stop the work of operators, if appropriate (in the absence of a supervisor)
  • May be required to handle or manage hazardous waste
  • May be required to complete hazardous waste management training
  • Additional department-specific requirements
  • Champion Safety and 6S Initiatives
  • Must be able to handle all the processes within the department
  • Responsible for other duties as assigned
  • Investing Leads must be able to recover minor robot issues, manage slurries and assess action needs if there are issues. Must have the ability to fully operate the autoclave and accompanying equipment (excluding boiler)
