Precipart, located in Farmingdale, NY, is seeking a Senior Applications Engineer to provide technical leadership in converting complex product requirements into robust, repeatable, and scalable serial production methods. This product-focused role supports precision components and assemblies from RFQ, feasibility, and development through production launch, ERP methodization, inspection strategy, costing support, and process maturation. This is a heavily in/external customer facing role which requires upmost professionalism. The role requires strong manufacturing judgment, urgency, technical rigor, and respectful cross-functional collaboration. The Senior Applications Engineer partners with Manufacturing, Quality, Planning, Procurement, Global Sourcing, Finance/Costing, Program Management, Inspection, Metrology, and site teams to ensure products are manufacturable, measurable, costed accurately, launched on time, and matured into stable production. Precipart is growing and investing in advanced manufacturing capability, including state-of-the-art machining centers, precision metrology equipment, automation, improved production systems, and expanded technical capability. This role helps translate that capability into product-specific methods, reliable execution, and improved customer outcomes across Precipart’s global manufacturing footprint.

Essential Functions

Product Methodization & Serial Production Launch

  • Develop, validate, and release manufacturing methods for serial production of precision machined components and assemblies.
  • Translate customer drawings, BOMs, specifications, quality requirements, application intent, and development learnings into production routings, operation sequences, work instructions, tooling concepts, fixture strategies, inspection plans, and process controls.
  • Determine the optimum machine center, work center, process path, and production strategy based on capability, capacity, tolerance requirements, geometry, material, volume, cost, lead time, and launch risk.
  • Support the transition from prototype, development, or NPI methods into stable serial production methods that are capable, documented, repeatable, measurable, scalable, and released on time.
  • Support Procurement and Global Sourcing in evaluating make-versus-buy options based on capability, capacity, quality risk, process maturity, customer requirements, cost, and delivery requirements.

Costing, Quoting & ERP Method Data

  • Provide technically grounded inputs for costing and quoting models, including setup time, cycle time, labor content, machine-center selection, tooling requirements, tooling costs, fixturing strategy, fixturing costs, gaging needs, consumable tooling assumptions, outside processing, inspection burden, scrap assumptions, capacity assumptions, and expected process maturity curve.
  • Create, enter, maintain, and validate production workflows, routings, operation sequences, work centers, labor assumptions, machine assumptions, setup times, run times, subcontract operations, inspection steps, and method instructions in ERP, including Infor LN.
  • Ensure ERP routings and workflows accurately reflect the approved manufacturing method, production sequence, cost structure, capacity assumptions, inspection requirements, metrology requirements, planning logic, and cost-driving assumptions.
  • Validate quoted assumptions against actual production performance during launch and early serial production; update methods, routings, ERP workflows, and quoting logic where gaps are identified.

Requirements, Metrology & CTQ Control

  • Translate customer requirements, engineering specifications, drawing notes, GD&T, and product-performance requirements into measurable production and inspection controls.
  • Develop CTQ matrices or equivalent requirement-control summaries that connect feature, specification, tolerance, GD&T requirement, measurement method, inspection frequency, inspection equipment, gage strategy, and required measurement-system analysis.
  • Define gage requirements, inspection strategies, and measurement-system validation needs, including gage R&R, correlation studies, bias studies, repeatability/reproducibility assessment, and customer-required measurement-system analysis.
  • Partner with Quality Engineering, Inspection, Metrology, and Manufacturing to ensure inspection plans, control plans, FAI/FAIR, PPAP, validation packages, and shop-floor checks are aligned to customer requirements and manufacturing risk.

Process Maturation & Continuous Improvement

  • Develop launch-to-stable process maturation plans covering yield, cycle time, setup reduction, inspection efficiency, labor productivity, process capability, scrap reduction, rework reduction, documentation maturity, and schedule reliability.
  • Monitor early serial production performance against defined maturity targets and drive timely corrective actions where performance does not meet expectations.
  • Use production data, quality data, inspection results, operator feedback, and customer feedback to refine methods, update ERP workflows, improve control plans, reduce variation, and support Lean and Six Sigma improvement priorities.
  • Support Lean manufacturing and planning initiatives through technical input on routings, lot sizes, setup reduction, flow constraints, product-family logic, capacity assumptions, inspection burden, and work center loading.

Cross-Functional, Cross-Site & Customer Support

  • Serve internal customers by providing clear methods, accurate ERP workflows, reliable quoting inputs, practical inspection strategies, and timely technical support.
  • Collaborate across Precipart’s global manufacturing sites to identify, document, and implement best practices for similar parts, product families, manufacturing methods, inspection approaches, and serial production controls.
  • Interface with customers and internal commercial teams on manufacturability, technical requirements, inspection strategy, production readiness, process maturity, and engineering change impact.
  • Communicate project status, risks, constraints, maturity gaps, and required decisions in a concise, respectful, timely, and fact-based manner.

Quality Management System

  • Responsible for conforming with the company’s quality management system requirements and contributing to its overall effectiveness.
  • Support the ultimate goals of customer satisfaction, product compliance, ethical practices, controlled documentation, and production methods that are capable, measurable, and repeatable.

Measures of Success and basis of role KPIs

  • Timely release of manufacturing methods and ERP workflows

Primary Focus Area

Senior Applications Engineers may be assigned a primary focus area such as product methodization, serial production launch, quoting and costing support, CTQ/metrology linkage, ERP workflow integrity, process maturation, or product-family standardization. This designation reflects current business needs and individual expertise and does not limit responsibility for supporting the full scope of the role.

Required Experience / Skills / Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical discipline required. Equivalent combination of education and relevant precision manufacturing experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in precision manufacturing, process engineering, applications engineering, manufacturing engineering, industrial engineering, or technical program launch.
  • Demonstrated experience moving products from prototype, development, or NPI into stable serial production.
  • Strong understanding of CNC turning, milling, grinding, gear manufacturing, deburring, assembly, inspection, metrology, and special processes.
  • Hands-on experience creating, entering, maintaining, and validating manufacturing workflows, routings, work centers, operation sequences, labor standards, machine times, setup times, subcontract operations, inspection steps, and production methods in an ERP/MRP system.
  • Experience developing manufacturing inputs for costing and quoting models, including setup time, cycle time, machine-center selection, labor content, tooling and fixturing costs, inspection requirements, outside processing, and capacity assumptions.
  • Experience tying customer requirements, engineering specifications, tolerances, GD&T, and CTQs to inspection plans, metrology methods, gage strategies, control plans, and measurement system validation.
  • Working knowledge of gage R&R, measurement-system analysis, inspection correlation, first-article inspection, process capability, production validation, and structured Lean/Six Sigma problem-solving methods.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings, BOMs, GD&T, customer specifications, quality clauses, and regulated industry documentation requirements.
  • Experience in high-mix, low-to-medium-volume precision manufacturing.
  • Experience supporting MedTech, Aerospace, Defense, or similarly controlled manufacturing environments.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to make data-driven decisions.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally, influence without direct authority, and communicate technical recommendations clearly and respectfully.
  • Ability to act with urgency, follow through on commitments, and support internal customers with timely, accurate, and actionable technical work.

Preferred Experience / Skills / Education

  • Working knowledge of Infor LN.
  • Experience in Swiss machining, micro-machining, precision gear manufacturing, miniature mechanical assemblies, or complex electromechanical assemblies.
  • Experience in contract manufacturing (i.e. CDMO) or customer-driven engineered-components environment.
  • Experience developing CTQ matrices, inspection matrices, control plans, or similar requirement-to-assessment summaries.
  • Experience developing process maturation plans that move new launches from initial production into stable, efficient, and controlled serial production.
  • Lean manufacturing experience, including value stream mapping, pull systems, kanban, PFEP, rough-cut capacity planning, SIOP, setup reduction, standard work, visual management, waste reduction, and flow improvement.
  • Six Sigma experience, including DMAIC, root-cause analysis, process capability, variation reduction, statistical problem solving, and data-based corrective action.
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification preferred.
  • Experience supporting outsourcing or make-versus-buy decisions for constrained work centers or specialized operations.
  • Familiarity with highly regulated customer environments, including MedTech design controls, aerospace/defense quality requirements, ITAR-controlled work, ISO standards, or customer-specific quality systems.
  • Experience leading cross-functional launch teams, technical recovery efforts, process maturation plans, or production-readiness reviews.

  • Pay Range: $85,000 to $110,000 annual salary
