Universal Pre-K Teacher Job Description
Position Title: Universal Pre-K Teacher
Reports To: Director
Location: Weirton, WV
Position Summary
The Universal Pre-K Teacher is responsible for planning and implementing a high-quality preschool program that prepares children for kindergarten readiness. The teacher creates a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment while supporting children's social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, or related field (required for WV Universal Pre-K)- Regents can apply .
- Current CPR and First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Ability to pass required background checks and state clearances
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Experience working with preschool-aged children preferred
Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesClassroom Instruction
- Plan and implement developmentally appropriate lessons aligned with West Virginia Universal Pre-K standards.
- Use Creative Curriculum and GOLD assessment system to support student learning and growth.
- Prepare weekly lesson plans and maintain required documentation.
- Foster language, literacy, math, science, social studies, and social-emotional development.
- Conduct ongoing assessments and maintain child portfolios.
Classroom Management
- Maintain a positive, safe, and organized classroom environment.
- Establish routines and classroom expectations that promote independence and self-regulation.
- Supervise children at all times, ensuring active supervision indoors and outdoors.
- Follow all licensing, health, and safety regulations.
Family Communication
- Build positive relationships with families.
- Communicate regularly regarding children's progress and classroom activities.
- Participate in conferences, family events, and parent meetings.
- Utilize Brightwheel and other communication tools as required.
Team Collaboration
- Work cooperatively with classroom aides, support staff, and administration.
- Attend staff meetings, professional development, and required trainings.
- Collaborate with Universal Pre-K partners and specialists when needed.
Record Keeping
- Maintain attendance records and required state documentation.
- Complete assessments, screenings, and reports accurately and on time.
- Ensure confidentiality of children and families.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
- Ability to sit on the floor, bend, stoop, kneel, and actively engage with children.
- Ability to supervise children indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Schedule
Monday–Friday, School Year Position
Hours based on Universal Pre-K classroom schedule- current hours 8:15am -1:15pm plus planning - Monday thru Friday - follows school calendar
Pay: $16.00 - $21.00 per hour
