Pratt & Whitney is seeking a highly motivated individual to support hands on mechanical testing of a wide range of materials for application in our turbine engines. This position is for an experimental test technician in the Materials & Processes Engineering Mechanical Testing Group. This role will support all aspects of the set-up, execution, analysis and reporting of advanced experimental and ASTM material characterization tests including creep, tensile and low cycle fatigue, TMF and crack growth. Materials tested include all major composite and alloy turbine engine materials in relevant engine conditions including elevated temperature, cryogenic, vacuum, inert, corrosive etc, environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Understand the principal systems for each piece of laboratory test equipment such as servo-hydraulics, closed loop control systems and data acquisition.
- Recognize, diagnose and rectify equipment and instrumentation problems.
- Accurately follow and document detailed test procedures, test conditions and results.
- Configure, assemble and modify complex electro-mechanical test systems
Basic Qualifications:
- HS Diploma or AA/AS degree(or other 2-year post high school training) with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
- US Citizenship required due to government contracts
- Work Schedule: On-Site
- Up to 10% travel
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associates degree or equivalent and 4 years of prior relevant engineering experience
- AS degree in Mechanical Engineering/Technology or Manufacturing preferred
- AP License Preferred
- Servo-hydraulic or electromechanical testing experience
- Experience with automating data analysis methods or database management
- Experience with CAD design, structural analysis, part definition and fabrication
- Experience with test system control software (MTS FlextesT or similar)
- A strong, hands-on mechanical background
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Ability to develop strong interpersonal relationships and exercise influence
- Knowledge and effective practice of Environmental, Health and Safety requirements
