POSITION SUMMARY
The Communications Specialist plans, develops and executes communications that inform and engage employees, patients and community audiences. Initially, this position will support Sanford Health Watertown, with responsibilities focused on internal communications, local marketing, community engagement, public relations and content development.
As Sanford Watertown continues its integration with the Sioux Falls Network, the position will transition into a regional communications role, providing communications support for assigned Sanford departments, initiatives and locations throughout the region, including Watertown.
The Senior Communications Specialist serves as a communications resource for leaders and stakeholders, ensuring the right messages reach the right audiences at the right time and in the appropriate voice and format.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and execute internal communications through email, intranet, newsletters, video and other communication channels.
- Write and edit content for internal and external audiences, including web, print, social media and Sanford Watertown News.
- Serve as a communications resource and partner to leaders, departments and key stakeholders.
- Lead, plan and support internal and public-facing events and community education initiatives.
- Support local marketing, public relations, and Sanford Watertown social media · Develop and maintain intranet and website content.
- Partner with marketing and creative teams to develop effective visual, video and digital communications.
- Ensure communications are clear, accurate, timely and aligned with Sanford Health brand standards.
- Manage multiple communication projects and priorities while meeting deadlines.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing or related field required.
- Three or more years of relevant communications, writing, marketing or public relations experience preferred.
- Health care or experience in a large, complex organization preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal and project management skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with individuals at all levels of an organization.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and digital communication platforms.
- Valid South Dakota driver's license required.
