What are the responsibilities and job description for the Production Manager position at Prairie Wood Products?
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Production Manager to oversee our manufacturing operations. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring that production processes run smoothly and efficiently while maintaining high-quality standards. This role requires strong leadership skills and a solid understanding of manufacturing processes, and the use of various tools.
Responsibilities
- Receive daily orders from all customers via email or phone and prioritize them to hit required due dates on time and all of the time.
- Be in communication with the owners as needed over special needs ie.. large equipment breakdowns or next level issues with customers
- Write up all daily delivery tickets
- Send delivery tickets daily to accounts receivables dept
- Handle any daily drop in orders from customers and communicate with customers to meet their needs
- Manage weekly the lumber consignment program and communicate with supplier if needed
- Manage the specific employees as needed for pre-cut stock needed for daily building and special orders (be efficient with inventory)
- Order and efficiently manage the hardwood inventory as required for skid orders
- Manage all employees as needed (write ups for absence issues, attitude etc)
- Efficiently manage nail inventory and communicate with the supplier on needs
- Efficiently manage and order consumables for both shops ie..banding, clips, plastic, foam ear plugs, gloves
- Load/unload personally or arrange that all lumber trucks incoming and outgoing are taken care of
- Clock in and always be present while employees are still there (excluding the driver)
- Handle any medical emergencies that may arise with employees
- Have the mind set to be looking for areas of continuous improvement throughout all aspects of the business and improving efficiencies across the board ie.. reducing scrap, employee time management, material cost savings, new strategies for building product etc .. Meet and share ideas with the owners monthly or quarterly.
- Fill in production needs as required in the absence of an employee or as needed to hit order due dates
- Manage daily production activities to ensure efficiency and quality standards are met.
- Supervise and train production staff, fostering a positive work environment.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies within the facility.
- Conduct regular inspections of equipment and machinery, performing maintenance as needed.
- Collaborate with other departments to optimize production workflows and resolve any issues that arise.
- Maintain accurate records of production metrics and report on performance regularly.
Requirements
- Proven experience in a manufacturing or factory environment is essential.
- Strong mechanical knowledge with the ability to troubleshoot equipment issues effectively.
- Familiarity with assembly line processes and techniques is preferred.
- Experience using hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.
- Prior warehouse experience is a plus, contributing to a well-rounded understanding of logistics in production settings.
- Forklift certification is desirable but not mandatory; willingness to obtain certification if necessary is expected.
- Excellent leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage a diverse team effectively.
