What are the responsibilities and job description for the Animal Welfare Associate position at Prairie Paws Animal Shelter?
Job Purpose/ Summary of position: The ideal candidate will have a passion for re-homing and caring for adoptable pets and serving the public. Candidates should also have exceptional communication skills including the ability to provide information correctly and concisely, both orally and in writing. All volunteers and employees of Prairie Paws should be comfortable working with a diverse group of people and should support the organization’s mission.
Essential Job Functions/Duties:
- Working under minimal supervision and in a team environment, serves the public and cares for sheltered pets
- Feeds, medicates and cleans the housing for sheltered pets
- Maintain files, records and statistics pertaining to intake, adoptions, miscellaneous outcomes and medical records
- Provide high quality customer service while promoting Prairie Paws Animal Shelter’s mission, services, programs and events to the public including but not limited to adopters, donors, potential adopters, volunteers, pet owners and fosters.
- Cultivate positive relationships with customers, donors, volunteers and co-workers through professional, courteous and educational interactions
- Perform reception duties including answering phone calls and emails
Required education: High school or equivalent
Required Skills:
- Must be able to read, write and communicate fluently in the English language; have excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills
- Ability to manage tasks in a fast-paced/high-stress environment & ability to be flexible and adapt to an ever-changing environment
- Computer skills: Microsoft Word/Excel and Shelter Management Software, social media and others as required
- Willingness to acquire continuing education throughout employment
- Ability to serve the public in an effective and courteous manner.
Preferred Experience
- Administrative/clerical, customer service, answering phones, cash handling, animal care
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $14.00 - $19.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40.0 per week
