What are the responsibilities and job description for the Head Start Teacher - Madison position at Prairie Five Community Action Council, Inc.?
Status: Part-Time – 9-10 months/Non-Exempt
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
- AA or AS degree in education or child development.
- Pre-K Certificate/BA or BS degree in Early Childhood Education.
- BA or BS in a related field with coursework equivalent to a major in early childhood education.
- BA or BS degree in education or child development with experience teaching preschool.
NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Continued training in Early Childhood Education. (2% of hours worked)
- Ability to cooperate and communicate, professionally, with other adults.
- Experience with preschool students in an educational setting.
- Ability to implement developmentally appropriate curriculum in the classroom.
- Ability to create an environment that is safe, nurturing, and conducive to learning.
- Ability to support and guide other adults in the classroom.
- Ability to relate to students and their parents in the program.
- Work experience in Community Service based programming preferred.
- Past or present Head Start parent or student preferred.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Implement developmentally appropriate curriculum as approved by the program.
- Develop age-appropriate lesson plans with student’s input/interests.
- Facilitate students’ learning through open ended questioning.
- Assess student’s progress using the Teaching Strategies Gold Assessment, three times
- Maintain a safe, clean, and attractive for students.
- Encourage parents to participate in Parent Meetings, training opportunities, and volunteering in the classroom.
- Train volunteers in classroom routines and duties.
- Provide parent education materials frequently through the program year.
- Assist parents in connecting with Family Advocates to help support the family’s needs.
- Attend monthly Parent Meeting and provide monthly calendars and newsletters of classroom happenings and events.
- Turn in monthly reports/lesson plans/ home visit plans as required.
- Complete and submit referrals or placements as appropriate.
- Dependable attendance/call supervisor if absent.
