Responsibilities
- Provide real-time interpretation for medical consultations, examinations, and procedures between healthcare professionals and Russian-speaking patients using both over-the-phone and video remote interpretation platforms.
- Translate medical terminology accurately to ensure comprehensive understanding of diagnoses, treatment plans, medication instructions, and clinical documentation.
- Uphold professional ethics by maintaining confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) regulations and clinical confidentiality policies.
- Demonstrate cultural competency by applying clinical cultural standards to foster trust and effective communication across diverse backgrounds.
- Assist with translating medical records, social work documentation, child protective services reports, and hospital forms to support seamless care coordination.
- Review clinical documentation for accuracy and completeness while adhering to medical translation services standards.
- Support cross-cultural communication efforts by understanding and respecting cultural nuances relevant to patient interactions.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations during all interpretation activities, safeguarding patient privacy at all times.
- Collaborate with healthcare teams to improve communication strategies that enhance patient outcomes and satisfaction.
Experience
- Proven experience as a medical interpreter or translator in healthcare settings such as hospitals or clinics.
- Multilingual proficiency in Russian and English; additional language skills like American Sign Language are a plus.
- Demonstrated expertise in medical terminology translation and interpretation across various medical specialties.
- Familiarity with video remote interpretation (VRI) technology and over-the-phone interpretation (OPI) platforms.
- Strong understanding of clinical ethical guidelines, cultural competency standards, and cross-cultural communication principles.
- Knowledge of social work procedures related to hospital discharge planning or child protective services is advantageous.
- Exceptional communication skills with the ability to convey complex medical information clearly and compassionately.
- Ability to review documentation accurately while maintaining strict adherence to HIPAA compliance protocols.
