Description:

The Part-Time Communication/Dispatch Officer is primarily responsible to receive and handle 911 calls, other emergency calls, monitor alarms, dispatch first responders, and make other notifications and reports as required. Other duties include, but not limited to clerical duties related to a dispatch center, such as: filing recall lists, operation of computers, completing and printing desk journals, maintaining alarm records, and completing records logs as assigned.

  • Follow all company personnel and safety policies, and perform all assigned duties in a safe work manner
  • Answering public and police calls for assistance in emergency and non-emergency situations on the telephone and radio
  • This position is located in a restricted area and is responsible for security of assigned work area and equipment
  • Relay information to/from police or security supervisors, take messages, and obtain clear and accurate information & relay to all pertinent personnel
  • Acts as the primary alarm and surveillance point for criminal information, natural disasters, and all other operations involving coordination with civil authorities and other federal agencies throughout the state and federal government
  • Work flexible hours to include weekends and holidays
  • Other duties may be assigned to meet business needs

Supervision

This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

  • Minimum High School Diploma or GED
  • Be at least 21 years of age
  • Ability to interact and communicate with people over the telephone, often in stressful situations
  • Knowledge of radio dispatch regulations, procedures, protocols, and/or equipment
  • Knowledge of fire and burglar alarm systems reporting
  • Successfully complete all training and obtain all required permits, licenses, certifications and security/medical clearances for the worksite
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a law enforcement dispatcher/communications officer

Computer Skills

  • Skill in operating a personal computer and standard office equipment
  • Working knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, database, (such as: MSWord, Excel, Access, PowerPoint), and Outlook

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations, Clearance

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license.
  • Possess or be able to obtain and maintain NACI security clearance.
  • Completed or be able to complete JSCPSC Orientation Course.
  • Completed or be able to complete Emergency Dispatch Training and Certification Program
  • Speak, read, write, and understand the English language, apply written rules, detailed orders, instructions and training material
  • Have no record or history of illegal drug use, sale, possession, or manufacture
  • Must be able to meet drug testing and alcohol – free workforce requirements to include random drug and/or alcohol testing

  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

  • During visits to areas of operations, may be exposed to extreme cold or hot weather conditions. Is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise.
