Job Description: Board-Certified Oncology Physician (Contractor)
Location: Providence VA Medical Center (PVAMC), 830 Chalkstone Avenue, Providence, RI 02908
Organization: Department of Veterans Affairs – VA Providence Healthcare System
Position Type: Contract, Full-Time (40 hours/week)
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM (excluding federal holidays)
On-Call Requirement: Evenings, weekends, and holidays (as scheduled)
Overview
Aptive Resource alongside the Providence, RI VAMC is seeking a Board Certified Oncology Physician Services for on-site and on-call to beneficiaries of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and the VA Providence Healthcare System. Services will be delivered primarily in an outpatient clinical setting (99%) with limited inpatient care responsibilities (1%) at the Providence VA Medical Center (PVAMC).
Duties and Responsibilities
Provide expert consultation and comprehensive oncology care to VA beneficiaries.
Evaluate, triage, and prioritize consults from primary care and specialty services for outpatient oncology consultations.
Obtain thorough medical histories, perform physical examinations, order and interpret appropriate diagnostic tests, and develop individualized treatment plans.
Coordinate medical management and follow-up care in collaboration with Primary Care Providers, Nurse Practitioners, and other members of the multidisciplinary healthcare team.
Provide inpatient oncology consultation and support as needed.
Perform administrative and clinical duties such as peer reviews and Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluations (OPPEs).
Participate in staff meetings, quality improvement initiatives, and compliance with VA clinical performance measures.
Maintain accurate, timely, and complete medical documentation in accordance with VA policies and standards.
On-Call Responsibilities
Provide on-call coverage during all non-clinic hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Remain available within 15 minutes by phone and on-site within 60 minutes for urgent callbacks.
Coordinate on-call schedule with VA staff Oncology physicians.
Report callback hours to designated VA timekeepers for compensation in accordance with overtime provisions.
Qualifications
Education: Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited institution.
License: Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in any U.S. State, Territory, or Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia.
Physicians with any history of restricted, suspended, or revoked licenses will not be considered.
Board Certification: Board Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine – Medical Oncology Board.
Certifications: Must maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification (or equivalent).
Experience: Demonstrated expertise in internal medicine and oncology in both inpatient and outpatient settings preferred.
Continuing Education: Must complete all continuing education requirements necessary to maintain board certification and professional licensure.
