Clinical Care
The Emergency Medicine Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) provides high-quality, patient-centered care in a fast-paced Emergency Department (ED) setting. This role involves the assessment, diagnosis, and management of acute illnesses and injuries across all age groups. The PA/NP works collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure efficient, evidence-based emergency care.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Care
- Perform rapid, accurate assessments of patients presenting with acute or emergent conditions.
- Conduct focused histories, physical examinations, and diagnostic evaluations.
- Order, interpret, and act upon laboratory tests, imaging studies, and EKGs.
- Diagnose and treat a wide range of conditions, including trauma, medical, surgical, pediatric, and psychiatric presentations.
- Perform emergency procedures such as:
- Laceration repair
- Prioritize and manage multiple patients simultaneously in a high-acuity environment.
- Collaborate closely with attending physicians and consultants.
- Coordinate patient disposition: discharge, admission, or transfer.
- Provide clear, supportive communication to patients and families.
- Complete accurate and timely electronic medical records (EMRs).
- Ensure compliance with department protocols, state practice laws, and institutional policies.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, peer review, and continuing education.
- Foster positive and professional relationships with ED staff and interdisciplinary teams.
- Participate in department meetings, training, and educational activities.
- Maintain required certifications and demonstrate ongoing clinical competence.
- Licensed PA-C or NP with national certification
- Current BLS, ACLS, PALS (ATLS preferred)
- Emergency or acute care experience preferred
