Job Description:
The University of Toledo Department of Anesthesiology is seeking a full-time Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist OR Certified Anesthesiologist Assistant to join our team at the University of Toledo Medical Center; an established level 2 academic trauma center. The Department of Anesthesiology provides patient care for all available surgical specialties, whether ambulatory or hospitalized.
Responsibilities:
The city of Toledo is located in NW Ohio near the western point of Lake Erie and along the Maumee River. Being the 4th largest city in Ohio, Toledo continues to grow as it is home to over 200,000 residents. There is much to see and do as it is home to 19 large metro parks with over 120 miles to bike, walk, and hike along the trails. Downtown Toledo is the hub for entertainment, as you can visit the Toledo Museum of Art, the Toledo Zoo, and the Toledo Symphony Orchestra!
The city also partakes in numerous sports activities, from minor league baseball, golfing clubs, and hockey, which can all be found within a few miles of each other. Toledo continues to be one of the most affordable places to live in the region. There are many different living options, from lofts in downtown to comfortable suburbs and villas. Toledo holds many high-quality schools and universities open for parents and students.

Responsibilities:
- Administer anesthesia under the medical direction of a qualified Anesthesiologist within the education, training, and experience of the anesthetist, including adjusting anesthetic levels on a minute-to-minute basis. These services may include perioperative patient evaluations as well as delegated teaching and research functions
- May perform initial acute cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPT/ALLS) in life-threatening situations as directed by a physician or protocol until the supervising anesthesiologist arrives
- Establishes multi-parameter monitoring of patient prior to, during, and after anesthesia or in other acute care situations. This includes ECG, direct arterial pressure, central venous pressure, arterial blood gas determinations and hematocrits, in addition to the routine measurement of temperature, respiration, blood pressure and heart rate. Also, other monitoring as may be developed for anesthesia and intensive care use will be incorporated. Modalities include, but are not limited to, ASA Standard Monitors, arterial and venous catheters
- Manages pre and post anesthetic care, including ventilatory support of patients as assigned by an Anesthesiologist
- May assist in research projects conducted by the Anesthesiologist and may also assist the Anesthesiologist in gathering routine pre-op data
- Education: Registered Nurse with completion of an accredited Nurse Anesthetist training program OR Completion of accredited Anesthesiologist Assistant training program
- License and/or Certification:
- Certification as a nurse anesthetist by the NBCRNA (National Board of Certification & Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists) OR Certification by the NCCAA (National Commission for Certification of Anesthesiologist Assistants)
- Certificate of Authority to practice as a CRNA issued by the Ohio Board of Nursing OR Registered with the State Medical Board of Ohio as an Anesthesiologist Assistant
- Active BLS, ACLS and PALS Certification (must be active within 90 days of hire)
