Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive nursing care to women during labor, delivery, and postpartum periods, including monitoring vital signs, fetal heart rates, and contractions.
- Assist with labor management using advanced techniques such as aseptic technique and suturing when necessary.
- Administer medications including pain management treatments and IV infusions, ensuring adherence to safety protocols.
- Prepare delivery rooms, assist physicians with procedures such as neonatal resuscitation procedures and catheterizations, and maintain sterile environments.
- Educate patients on postpartum care, breastfeeding techniques, and newborn care practices while providing emotional support.
- Document patient assessments, medical records, and clinical interventions accurately within Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems like Epic or Cerner.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including obstetricians, neonatologists, anesthesiologists, and lactation consultants to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Qualifications
- Valid RN license with current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Procedures (NRP).
- Proven experience in obstetric nursing with a focus on labor & delivery and postpartum care; experience working in Level I or Level II trauma centers preferred.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy related to obstetrics, physiology knowledge of pregnancy stages, and infection control practices.
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or Cerner for accurate documentation.
- Ability to perform complex procedures including IV insertion, venipuncture, suturing, catheter care, and specimen collection/processing.
- Excellent patient assessment skills combined with compassionate communication tailored to diverse patient populations including individuals with disabilities or special needs.
- Critical care experience or ICU experience is highly desirable for managing high-risk pregnancies or emergency situations.
