Overview
We are seeking detail-oriented Entry Writers to join our U.S. customs brokerage team in Pharr, TX. The successful candidates will prepare and transmit import entries and entry summaries, review commercial documentation, verify tariff classification, customs value, country of origin, quantities, duties and fees, and respond to CBP messages, rejects and documentation requests.
Entry Writers will work on site exclusively on behalf of the employing customs broker and under the supervision and control of a licensed customs broker. Responsibilities must be performed within the employee’s delegated authority and in accordance with applicable CBP requirements, company procedures and 19 CFR Parts 111, 141, 142 and 143.
Responsibilities
- Prepare accurate customs entries by reviewing shipment documentation and ensuring compliance with all applicable customs regulations, including FDA regulations, export management, and import management standards.
- Manage regulatory reporting requirements related to customs clearance, trade compliance, and transportation safety regulations.
- Utilize global trade management software and Excel data analysis tools to track shipments, analyze data trends, and generate detailed reports for internal stakeholders.
- Coordinate with freight forwarders, customs brokers, and logistics providers to facilitate timely clearance of goods while adhering to customs brokerage management standards.
- Monitor changes in international trade regulations such as the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) guidelines and adjust procedures accordingly to maintain compliance.
- Conduct risk assessments related to customs clearance processes and implement risk management strategies to mitigate potential delays or penalties.
- Maintain comprehensive records of all customs documentation, regulatory compliance activities, and audit trails for future reference and reporting purposes.
Key Qualifications
- · Experience in customs brokerage, import operations, freight forwarding or international logistics.
- · Knowledge of U.S. import documentation, HTSUS classification and customs entry procedures.
- · Familiarity with ABI/EDI or customs brokerage software.
- · Strong attention to detail and ability to meet time-sensitive deadlines.
- · Proficiency in written and spoken English.
- · Spanish or other language skills are a plus.
- · Ability to communicate effectively with importers, carriers, warehouses, government agencies and internal teams.
- · High standards of integrity, accuracy and confidentiality.
Employment is subject to applicable CBP requirements and company background-screening procedures. Any required regulatory approval must be obtained before an individual performs customs business when applicable. The candidate must disclose any felony conviction or other criminal record that could affect the broker’s ability to employ the individual in customs-related activities. This position does not independently practice as a customs broker and does not require an individual customs broker license unless otherwise specified by the employer or required for assigned duties.
Pay: From $26,000.00 per year
