Assistant Controller

POSITION SUMMARY
The Assistant Controller plays a critical role in supporting the financial integrity of the organization by overseeing day-to-day accounting operations and managing the accounting team, including Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable. This role partners closely with the Chief Financial Officer to ensure accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and compliance with GAAP while driving process improvements and developing team capabilities.
Responsibilities
KEY RELATIONSHIPS
Internal - Department managers and direct reports; External – Customers, vendors, related-party accounting staff, and audit firm.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Direct and oversee all aspects of the daily activities of the Accounting department, including General Ledger, Accounts Receivable. Accounts Payable, Fixed Assets, and Inventory and payroll support.
· Manage month-end close process.
· Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and month‑end close deliverables.
· Assist with managing the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, ensuring deadlines are met.
· Prepare and review internal financial statements, variance analyses, and management reports.
· Ensure financial credibility of Grane Supply, Inc. by providing timely financial reports including analysis of budget performance and financial trends.
· Assist with the annual budget/ financial plan.
· Assist with providing recommendations to enhance financial performance.
· Advise Management on the financial implications of business activities.
· Assist in developing performance measures that support Grane Supply, Inc. strategic direction.
· Provide leadership in the development of short and long-term strategic financial objectives.
· Establish and maintain strong relationships with Grane Supply, Inc. department management.
· Ensure that effective internal controls exist and are observed.
· Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state and local regulatory laws and rules for financial and tax reporting.
· Prepare executive summary of financial results to Board of Directors, monthly.
· Preform other duties and special projects assigned by the CFO.
Qualifications
EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
· BS in Accounting, MBA and/or CPA preferred.
· 7 years of progressive accounting/finance experience, healthcare preferred, including supervisory responsibilities.
· 2-4 years of public accounting experience preferred, including prior involvement with audits and tax filings.
· Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
· Clear communicator with the ability to collaborate across departments.
· Possesses excellent critical thinking as well as analytical skills.
· Demonstrates excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
· Advocates the highest ethical standards and practices.
· Demonstrates leadership expertise.
· Possesses the ability to manage a complex workload involving multiple priorities.
· Possesses a functioning knowledge of US GAAP.
· Demonstrates knowledge of financial and accounting software programs.
· Lean process improvement experience.
· Possesses the ability to promote and facilitate a team environment.
