Job Description

Job Description

PPM Consultants is seeking a mid- to senior-level Environmental Engineer to join our team in Jackson, Mississippi. This position is a great fit for an environmental professional who enjoys managing projects, working directly with clients, and developing practical solutions to regulatory compliance and environmental due diligence needs.

The role will primarily focus on regulatory compliance, environmental due diligence, and project management, with opportunities to contribute assessment and remediation expertise depending on your background. We understand that environmental professionals bring different areas of expertise, so responsibilities may be tailored to the experience and technical strengths of the selected candidate.

What You'll Do

In this role, you will:

  • Manage environmental compliance and due diligence projects from proposal and scope development through project completion.

  • Develop project scopes, schedules, budgets, proposals, and cost estimates while monitoring project performance and maintaining client communication.

  • Lead regulatory compliance projects based on your experience, which may include:

    • Air permitting, emissions inventories, and compliance reporting

    • NPDES, stormwater, and wastewater permitting

    • Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs)

    • Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) plans

    • Hazardous and solid waste compliance

    • Environmental compliance audits

  • Research federal and state environmental requirements and help clients develop practical compliance strategies.

  • Manage Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) and coordinate Phase II investigations when needed.

  • Review historical, regulatory, and site information; evaluate environmental concerns; interpret investigation results; and review technical reports.

  • Apply relevant ASTM due diligence practices and clearly communicate environmental risks and recommended next steps to clients.

  • Collaborate with PPM's engineers, scientists, geologists, field staff, and subcontractors.

  • Communicate professionally with clients and regulatory agencies.

  • Oversee safe field activities and ensure technically sound, high-quality work products.

  • Mentor junior staff and support proposals, client relationships, and business development, particularly at the senior level.

Assessment and remediation experience is a plus but is not the primary focus of this position.

Job Requirements

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental, Civil, Chemical, or a related engineering discipline.

  • Environmental consulting and project management experience appropriate for a mid- or senior-level position.

  • Experience managing regulatory compliance and/or environmental due diligence projects.

  • Working knowledge of applicable federal and state environmental regulations and relevant ASTM due diligence practices.

  • Strong technical writing, regulatory research, organization, and client communication skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects, schedules, and budgets while coordinating resources and meeting deadlines.

  • Ability to participate in occasional regional fieldwork and travel.

Preferred Qualifications

The following are a plus, but we don't expect every candidate to have experience in all of these areas:

  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration or eligibility to obtain Mississippi PE registration.

  • Experience with subsurface assessment or remediation projects, including soil and groundwater investigations, sampling oversight, data interpretation, remediation evaluation or design, implementation oversight, and monitoring/reporting.

  • Underground storage tank (UST) or brownfields experience.

  • Current 40-hour HAZWOPER training and refresher.

  • Experience with GIS, environmental data tools, air modeling, or other specialized environmental compliance areas.
