Core Responsibilities
- Plans, directs, and controls operating and maintenance activities so as to provide an accident-free work place, and to ensure the safety of personnel working at the production facilities. Investigates accidents, reviews accident reports and takes corrective action as required.
- Leads the coordination of the daily operation of the generating assets to meet system demands, environmental requirements, and business objectives through the coordination and scheduling of unit outages, load restrictions, personnel scheduling, and utilization of resources supplied by other departments and vendors.
- Ensures the safe and effective operation and maintenance of equipment and ensures production interruptions are minimized.
- Leads and directs all operational and maintenance activities in a manner that supports a commitment to customer service.
- Oversees, reviews, and reports the site’s O&M and capital budget.
- Reviews and evaluates daily operating information to ensure compliance with regulations and permit conditions. Ensures proper reporting procedures are followed when conditions warrant.
- Directs, leads, and supports continuous improvements of maintenance activities for unit and equipment outages (planning, execution, communication, and follow-up).
- Coordinates and oversees direction of major projects.
- Coordinates unit testing in association with engineers and others for units and equipment to determine efficient, optimum, cost effective operating practices and procedures.
- Plans and schedules personnel to meet production requirements, assigns tasks, sets performance requirements and expectations, and monitors/measures individual performance to objectives.
- Leads preventive and predictive maintenance activities aimed at improving reliability and availability.
- Regularly reviews the status of unit conditions, equipment, and personnel performance to assure optimum efficiency and cost effective operations are maintained. Directs corrective action as required.
- Oversees and approves on-site contractor’s performance and scope of work.
- Analyzes the root cause for equipment failures and unit shutdowns. Determines the appropriate practice and procedure to be taken to minimize recurrences.
- Establishes training objectives for O&M employees. Ensures that all O&M employees are appropriately trained.
- Determines employee development needs and provides coaching, career counseling and development opportunities. Provide vision and serve as a role model for leadership throughout the organization. Demonstrates flexibility and commitment toward rotational assignments.
- Coordinates the review and evaluation of operating practices and procedures to improve effectiveness and efficiency in the utilization of the generating assets. Ensures safe work practices and proper procedures are followed.
- Develops and reviews employee performance evaluations. Takes an active role in managing and improving employee performance.
- Ensures compliance with regulation, reporting requirements, and permits at production facilities. Ensures uniform application and consistency of Company policies and procedures for production personnel.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the General Manager.
- Associates degree and eight years of related experience in related utility operations, including production assignments, or an equivalent combination of education and experience on a year-for-year basis, is required.
Preferred Qualifications
Formal supervisory experience is preferred. Engineering degree preferred. Possesses and demonstrates abilities to build team, coach, facilitate, negotiate, motivate, and energize employees and others. Possesses written and verbal communication skill with all levels of personnel; skilled at influencing performance. Ability to cope with and implement change. Ability to deal with ambiguity, turning concepts into action. Ability to provide candid and constructive feedback. Knowledge of power generating equipment and procedures. Should have good computer skills in Word Processing and Spreadsheets. Ability to analyze and evaluate technical material and data.
