As a Tool Maker you will be a crucial part of our operations, ensuring that a quality product is available to our customers when they need them. Your work will directly affect people's lives!
Primary Responsibilities
- Fabrication and repair of precision tooling used for the manufacturing of aircraft transparencies. Candidate will be required to work with a variety of material types (plastic, fiberglass, metal, epoxy, composites, etc.) while performing their job.
- Job will include milling, lathe work, welding, epoxy work, metal bending, and various other hand tool work.
- Work from blueprints, sketches, master shapes, CAD data, and incorporate end user feedback to create tooling that is both ergonomically functional, and dimensionally correct.
- Candidate will be required to enroll in off-site technical college and take a prescribed course curriculum as part of their apprenticeship, while maintaining an acceptable GPA.
- Work under the guidance of senior/more-experienced toolmaker/s to learn the nuances of tool fabrication and repair. Candidate must be receptive to constructive feedback to progress their skillset.
- Be flexible in job function during times of need- i.e. tooling emergency from production floor or similar situation.
- Obeys all plant general and safety rules, paying special attention to shop specific safety hazards.
- Any employees accepted as a toolmaker are required to enter the apprenticeship program and satisfactorily complete 48 credit hours of schoolwork at Calhoun.
- Able to read and understand blueprints.
- Ability to work well with hands while focusing on detailed tasks.
- Experience with fiberglass/epoxy tooling fabrication
- Experience with machining (manual and/or CNC) fabrication.
- Prior tooling or similar experience.
