What are the responsibilities and job description for the Direct Support Professional (DSP)- (Driver - FT/PT/OC) position at PPEP Inc.?
Under the supervision of program leadership, the DSP provides direct care, support, and skill-building services to adults with developmental disabilities. The role includes assisting with daily living skills, personal care, medication administration, transportation, and maintaining a safe, home-like environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach and assist residents with daily living skills (hygiene, cooking, routines, etc.).
- Support recreational activities, community involvement, and independent living skill development.
- Attend ISP meetings and participate in service planning.
- Communicate effectively with families, support coordinators, medical staff, and team members.
- Document observations, progress notes, incidents, and required records accurately.
- Maintain clean, safe living environments and report maintenance needs.
- Prepare meals, including special diets as required.
- Perform sleepover duties when needed.
- Complete and maintain all required certifications (CPR/First Aid, Article 9, Fingerprint Clearance, QMAT, etc.).
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must meet one of the following experience requirements (minimum 3 months):
- Implementing ISP plans, documentation, or habilitation/recreational programs; or
- Providing respite or personal care with approved training; or
- Providing habilitation services or working under a qualified supervisor.
Additional requirements:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid Arizona driver’s license and MVR clearance (if driving).
- Must be 18 (21 to transport residents).
- Level I Fingerprint Clearance and background check.
- CPR/First Aid, Article 9, Prevention & Supports, and QMAT certification (or ability to earn them).
- Ability to read, write, and speak English.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to drive agency vehicles (age 21 , with training).
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Crisis intervention capability.
- Certified in First Aid/CPR.
Physical & Emotional Requirements
- Ability to sit/stand for long periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to climb stairs, hear/see to monitor residents, and assist with household tasks.
- Must stay calm, supportive, and non-defensive during crises.
