Profile:
As a Safety Coordinator, your key responsibility will be to manage and enforce Poynter’s Safety Program for the assigned project(s) by identifying, eliminating, and controlling hazardous conditions that may lead to injury and/or property damage. By using and enforcing job specific safety standards, best management practices, and Poynter’s safety program, the Site Safety Coordinator shall ensure the safety of all persons and property on the job site resulting in an accident/incident free project. We are looking for a health and safety professional to manage our program in the Raleigh/Durham North Carolina area. This will be a full-time position.
Essential Functions:
A. Education
· Conduct weekly "Toolbox Safety Meeting' and document content and attendance.
· Conduct Safety Orientation for new employees.
· Advise project staff on site specific safety issues/guideline
· Evaluate the need for safety training and make recommendations
· Ability to train employees in the following and be considered a competent person for these areas:
o Aerial Lifts
o Confined Spaces
o Fall Protection
o Personal Protective equipment
o Forklifts (Standard & Rough Terrain)
o Material handling
o Company New Hire Orientation
B. Jobsite
· Enforce safe work practices and safe working conditions in accordance with all State, Federal, Local regulations (including OSHA), as well as Wilhelm company policies and owner/contractual requirements.
· Be able to assess situations in the field and develop a plan with employees to move forward safely
· Conduct daily and/or weekly (as appropriate or specified by job) job site inspections.
· Record observations from site inspections and complete required reports.
· Investigate, corroborate, document, all accidents, incidents, and near misses on the jobsite.
· Recommend and implement corrective action based on policies, guidelines, and laws.
Education & Experience Requirements:
· Have a degree in occupational safety and health or 5 years’ experience working as a safety professional
· Received an OSHA 30 Hour Construction card in the past 5 years
· Certifications in the industry a plus, OSHA 500, AWP trainer, Forklift Trainer
- Competent trainer in construction safety and 5 years fulfilling a health and safety role
- Extended travel on occasion and/or temporary, periodic relocation may be necessary.
