Summary
The Instructional Coach (Mathematics) will have a passion for math education, the ability to work with students at various math levels, and a commitment to fostering a positive and supportive learning environment. The Instructional Coach will provide support, guidance, and professional development to teachers, focusing on evidence-based instructional practices, curriculum implementation, and data-driven decision making. The coach will also be responsible for coordinating, developing, implementing, and monitoring math curriculum. The Instructional Coach will work collaboratively with the Mathematics Instructional Specialist to enhance the quality of mathematics instruction and improve student achievement.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide direct support to the classroom teacher by coaching and modeling effective instructional practices
- Collaborate with the building level administration, building level staff, and district level Mathematics Instructional Specialist in the development and implementation of programs and strategies for the improvement of student achievement in mathematics.
- Provide building level leadership and support to teachers and paraprofessionals to increase their content knowledge in mathematics and to teach new instructional strategies through consultations with teachers and by modeling lessons in teachers’ classrooms.
- Collaborate with teachers to review and further develop mathematics curriculum materials, pacing guides and instructional plans to enhance the success of students and teachers.
- Assist with the review and identification of instructional materials, managing adoption of new textbook materials in accordance with county guidelines and procedures, and providing staff development opportunities for teachers and administrators based upon textbook implementation.
- Develop and present ongoing professional development opportunities for teachers based on identified needs at the assigned school.
- Engage in research-based professional development to stay abreast of current best practices in instruction and support teachers in implementing learned practices.
- Monitor various forms of documentation and records regarding mathematics instruction and student performance.
- Use data to make instructional decisions related to curriculum and instruction; monitor and assess student, teacher, school and division performance.
- Disaggregate data to provide ongoing assessment of student achievement.
- Recommend and implement improvements to curriculum, instruction and assessment based on-going analysis of results.
- Visit classrooms for teaching support and consultation; monitors instructional programs in the schools; conducts routine assessment of the effectiveness of specified instructional area instruction programs.
- Supports the principal with ensuring accurate implementation of district expectations for instruction in the area of math.
- Assist in mentoring new teachers by providing assistance in developing and implementing the mathematics program.
- Adhere to policies and regulations as outlined in federal and state laws and School Board Policies and Procedures.
- Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the superintendent, or designee.
Qualifications
Master’s Degree with a concentration in Mathematics or a Mathematics Specialist endorsement preferred.
Minimum of three years of successful classroom teaching experience in which the teaching of mathematics was an important responsibility.
Postgraduate Professional License.
