The Powhatan County Board of Supervisors invites qualified voters in Election District 5 to express their interest in filling the interim role as Board member for Election District 5 by completing the application available on the County’s website at:

In addition to completing the application, interested individuals must also submit a current resume. Application materials and resumes should be submitted electronically to administration@powhatanva.gov.
All individuals seeking consideration are invited to submit their application and resume by 5:00 p.m. Monday, May 1, 2026.
Please note that, consistent with applicable public records requirements, application materials and resumes for candidates under consideration will be made available for public inspection.
The Board plans to hold interviews with shortlisted candidates on May 4, 2026, beginning at 3:00 p.m. Interviews will be conducted in person in the Village Building Conference Room, 3910 Old Buckingham Road, Powhatan, VA 23139. These interviews are expected to be held in a closed meeting in accordance with applicable provisions of the Virginia Freedom of Information Act.

The Board of Supervisors will hold a public meeting before the appointment is made at which it will announce the names of all persons being proposed for the interim appointment and make each person’s application materials available for inspection.
The Board of Supervisors will be making this appointment at its meeting on Monday, May 18, 2026. The person appointed shall exercise all powers of the office and shall serve until the qualified voters elect a representative through a Special Election to be held on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, and the elected candidate has qualified.
The Board of Supervisors is the governing body that oversees the operation of county government and has legislative, executive, and quasi-judicial powers that implement and, as necessary, refine the local application of state law and public policy. The Board of Supervisors collectively is responsible for adopting an annual budget outlining the expenditures of all branches of the County Government on a fiscal-year basis, capital improvement plans, county policies, programs, and projects for transportation, the environment, land use, human services, housing, economic development, and many other services that directly impact all county residents and businesses. The Board also approves or rejects land use proposals, makes appointments to various authorities, boards, and commissions that serve county residents and businesses, and appoints the County Administrator and County Attorney to provide professional oversight of day-to-day county operations.
The Board of Supervisors meets a minimum of one time monthly; additionally, Board members participate in countless committee, constituent, and other related functions.
