Electrical Project Purchasing & Coordinator

Position Summary

The Electrical Project Purchasing & Coordinator is responsible for coordinating material purchasing, job material specifications, project estimating support, material deliveries, scheduling, and ongoing job tracking for an electrical contracting company.

This position works closely with project managers, estimators, electricians, suppliers, vendors, and customers to ensure that the right materials are purchased, delivered when needed, and available for field crews to keep projects moving.

The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, proactive, and has a strong understanding of electrical materials and construction. Electrical contracting experience is highly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

Purchasing & Material Management

- Purchase electrical materials and equipment for active projects.

- Obtain pricing and availability from electrical suppliers and manufacturers.

- Compare supplier pricing, lead times, and availability.

- Track purchase orders and material commitments.

- Coordinate material deliveries to job sites, warehouses, and project locations.

- Verify material orders for accuracy before placing orders.

- Follow up with suppliers on backorders, shortages, damaged materials, and delayed deliveries.

- Maintain organized records of purchases and project material costs.

Material Specification

- Review project drawings, specifications, and scopes of work to help determine required materials.

- Assist estimators and project managers in developing accurate material lists.

- Identify appropriate electrical materials, equipment, fittings, conduit, wire, controls, panels, disconnects, lighting, and other job-specific components.

- Communicate with vendors and manufacturers when assistance is needed with product selection or specifications.

- Identify potential material issues or long-lead items before they affect the project schedule.

Estimating & Quoting Support

- Assist with preparing material takeoffs and material pricing for electrical projects.

- Obtain supplier quotes and compare pricing.

- Assist estimators with material pricing, availability, and lead-time information.

- Help prepare project quotes and proposals.

- Maintain current supplier pricing and product information.

- Identify opportunities to reduce material costs while maintaining project requirements.

Project Scheduling & Coordination

- Assist with scheduling electrical crews and project work.

- Coordinate material deliveries with project schedules and field requirements.

- Track upcoming project needs and ensure materials are ordered in advance.

- Maintain a schedule of active and upcoming projects.

- Communicate schedule changes to project managers, field personnel, suppliers, and other affected parties.

- Help coordinate equipment rentals, specialty materials, and other project resources when required.

Ongoing Job Tracking

- Maintain current status information for active projects.

- Track material orders, deliveries, backorders, and outstanding items.

- Monitor upcoming project milestones and material requirements.

- Identify potential delays and communicate them before they become problems.

- Help project managers maintain accurate project documentation.

- Follow up on outstanding items until they are resolved.

Qualifications

- Experience in electrical construction, electrical distribution, purchasing, estimating, or project coordination preferred.

- Strong knowledge of electrical materials and construction practices.

- Ability to read and understand electrical drawings and specifications.

- Ability to create and understand material takeoffs.

- Strong computer skills and ability to learn company estimating, purchasing, and project-management software.

- Excellent organizational and communication skills.

- Strong attention to detail.

- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.

- Ability to negotiate pricing and communicate effectively with suppliers.

- Ability to work independently and take initiative.

- Valid driver's license.

Preferred Experience

- 2 years of electrical construction experience.

- Experience working for an electrical contractor or electrical supply house.

- Experience with electrical estimating or purchasing.

- Familiarity with conduit, wire, fittings, electrical equipment, controls, panels, lighting, and industrial electrical materials.

- Experience reading electrical plans and specifications.

- Experience coordinating construction projects.

Pay: $20.00 - $30.00 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 40.0 per week
