Senior Electrical Power Systems Engineer
Location: Raleigh, NC area
Compensation: to $200K (salary, bonus, annual pension contribution)
Power Technology Associates, Inc. is conducting a search fora fast-growing engineering organization developing advanced power conversion and energy systems for mission-critical applications. This is the R&D division of a multi-billion dollar industry leader. The team operates with a mix of startup agility and established resources. This role focuses on the design and development of grid-connected and standalone power electronics systems, supporting next-generation energy and electrification platforms.
Position Summary:
- The Senior Electrical Power Systems Engineer will lead the architecture, integration, and validation of high-performance power conversion systems.
- This individual will work across electrical, software, and mechanical domains to deliver reliable, compliant, and scalable solutions.
- This is a hands-on technical leadership role with significant involvement in system design, testing, and cross-functional collaboration.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead system architecture, requirements definition, and engineering for new power electronics platforms
- Develop system-level specifications, integration plans, and design documentation
- Design and execute validation and test plans (performance, thermal, EMI/EMC, safety, reliability)
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and certification requirements
- Support selection and validation of key components including magnetics, semiconductors, sensors, and protection circuits
- Use simulation and modeling tools to optimize system performance and efficiency
- Lead system integration and debugging in lab environments (high-voltage/high-power systems)
- Collaborate with firmware, software & mechanical teams to ensure system performance &manufacturability
- Provide technical mentorship and guidance to junior engineers
Qualifications:
- BSEE required, MSEE preferred (power electronics or related field)
- 10 years of experience in power electronics or power systems engineering
- Strong knowledge of converter topologies (e.g., buck/boost, multi-phase, DAB, LLC, H-bridge)
- Experience with high-voltage (>400V) and high-power (>10kVA) systems
- Familiarity with embedded systems and multi-board architectures
- Experience with communication protocols (Ethernet, CAN, I2C, serial)
- Hands-on experience with system validation, EMI/EMC, and thermal testing
- Must be US Citizen or Permanent resident
Preferred Experience:
- Energy storage, microgrids, or distributed energy systems - EV charging or grid-interactive technologies
- DSP/controls integration for power converters - High-voltage or industrial-grade system design
- Experience with wide bandgap semiconductors (SiC, GaN)
