About Power Technical (PTEC)

Power Technical (PTEC), a James Irwin Charter School, serves students in grades 6–12 and prepares them for success in both college and skilled-trades careers.

PTEC combines rigorous core academics with hands-on Career and Technical Education (CTE) in areas such as construction, welding, machining, electrical, plumbing, manufacturing, and CAD/engineering. Students have opportunities to apply academic concepts through real-world projects while learning in a structured environment with clear expectations.

Our academic teachers receive training, coaching, and instructional support, including training in our Direct Instruction methodology.

Position Summary

PTEC is seeking a dedicated Middle/High School English Language Arts Teacher to join our instructional team.

The ideal candidate will help students become confident readers, writers, speakers, and critical thinkers while developing the communication skills necessary for success in college, technical education, skilled trades, and the workforce.

At PTEC, English Language Arts is more than the study of literature and composition. Strong literacy and communication skills are essential in every profession. Our English teachers help students connect reading, writing, speaking, research, and analytical thinking to both academic learning and real-world applications.

Responsibilities

• Teach middle and/or high school English Language Arts aligned with Colorado Academic Standards.
• Provide instruction in literature, composition, grammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension, and oral and written communication.
• Develop students' analytical thinking, effective writing, and communication skills.
• Incorporate meaningful real-world reading and writing applications that prepare students for college, technical education, and career pathways.
• Collaborate with CTE instructors when appropriate to connect English Language Arts with technical reading, professional writing, research, presentations, and workplace communication.
• Assess and monitor student progress using formative and summative assessments.
• Maintain a structured, positive classroom environment with clear expectations for student behavior and academic performance.
• Differentiate and adapt instruction to support a range of student learning needs.
• Communicate regularly and professionally with students, families, colleagues, and school leadership.
• Participate in required pre-service training, instructional coaching, and ongoing professional development.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• Strong content knowledge in English Language Arts.
• Colorado teaching license, eligibility for licensure, or willingness and ability to obtain appropriate licensure preferred.
• Degree in English, English Education, Literature, Secondary Education, or a related field preferred.
• Passing score on the appropriate English Language Arts PRAXIS examination or other demonstration of Colorado subject-area competency preferred.
• Previous classroom teaching experience preferred.
• Strong classroom-management and communication skills.
• Ability to support diverse learners in a structured academic environment.
• Willingness to learn and implement PTEC/JICS instructional methods, including Direct Instruction.
• Interest in connecting English Language Arts instruction with Career and Technical Education and real-world applications.

Schedule: Monday–Friday, In Person

Salary

$35,000–$55,000 annually, based on education and qualifications

Salary placement is based on the candidate's education, subject-area competency, licensure, and applicable credentials.

• $35,000 starting salary – Candidates who have a bachelor's degree but have not yet demonstrated competency in the assigned English Language Arts content area through an applicable degree, passing PRAXIS examination, or other accepted Colorado pathway.
• $45,000 starting salary – Candidates who demonstrate competency in the assigned content area through a qualifying English/ELA-related bachelor's degree, passing the appropriate PRAXIS examination, or another accepted Colorado pathway.
• $50,000 starting salary – Candidates who meet the applicable subject-area competency requirements and hold a master's degree.
• $55,000 starting salary – Candidates who meet the applicable subject-area competency requirements and hold a doctoral degree.

Prior years of teaching experience do not determine salary placement.

Final salary placement is determined by James Irwin Charter Schools based on education, licensure, subject-area qualifications, and applicable credentials.

Teaching staff attend required pre-service training prior to the beginning of the school year.
