Job Summary
The QA/QC Mechanical Lead is responsible for overseeing proper installation with field General Foreman/Superintendent. Lead is responsible for onsite quality inspections and pertaining documentation. Lead is responsible for QC team inspections being performed at 100%.
Responsibilities
Safety Leadership
- Lead by example in enforcing all site safety policies and procedures
- Conduct daily Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), toolbox talks, and pre-task plans
- Stop work and escalate unsafe conditions immediately
- Ensure crew compliance with PPE, equipment use, and site rules
Crew Leadership & Supervision
- Lead crews
- Assign daily tasks and manage crew productivity
- Monitor manpower, performance, and workflow efficiency
- Mentor new hires and less experienced team members
Mechanical Installation Oversight
- Oversee installation of:
- Tracker systems (single-axis or fixed tilt)
- Piles and racking
- Module mounting
- Ensure installations meet design drawings, specs, and manufacturer requirements
- Keep record of any and all calibration certificates across the site.
Quality Control
- Perform quality checks on mechanical work
- Identify deficiencies
- Ensure documentation, checklists, and punch lists are completed accurately
- Prevent rework through proper inspection methods and coaching
Coordination & Communication
- Coordinate daily activities with Foremen and Superintendents
- Communicate progress and challenges to the Superintendent
- Assist with look-ahead planning and sequencing
- Support schedule recovery efforts when delays occur
Tools, Equipment & Materials
- Ensure crews have proper tools, equipment, and materials
- Monitor material usage and minimize waste
- Report damaged or missing materials promptly
- Assist with inventory tracking as needed
Qualifications
Required
- 2-4 years of utility-scale solar construction experience
- Prior experience as a QC Mechanical Lead preferred
- OSHA 10
- Strong knowledge of tracker systems and mechanical solar components
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
- Proven leadership and crew management experience
- Strong commitment to safety and quality
Preferred
- Bilingual
- Experience with major tracker manufacturers (Nextracker, Array, ATI, etc.)
- OSHA 30 certification
- First Aid / CPR certification
- Experience working on large-scale renewable energy projects
Physical & Work Requirements
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. regularly
- Prolonged standing, walking, bending, climbing, and use of hand tools
- Willingness to work extended hours, weekends, and travel as required
