JOB SUMMARY

Assesses client needs, facilitates the provision of appropriate services, and monitors the progress of the individual participants. Incumbents may be assigned to one or more functional areas within the facility as needed.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Ideal candidates will have excellent skills in clinical record keeping, time management, and professional ethics. The Power House Residential Drug Treatment Center believes that addiction is a progressive disease, potentially fatal that can be treated at any stage. It is essential counselors possess a positive attitude, knowledge of evidenced based treatment modalities. Strong case management skills and computer literacy required for electronic record keeping. We require punctuality and consistent attendance; must be able to work flexible hours, work in a fast paced environment with the ability to work independently as well as the team approach.

Counselor will be required to provide group and individual counseling, conduct intake assessments, develop treatment plans, discharge and aftercare planning, coordination of care, referral to ancillary services, and have excellent boundaries to avoid enmeshment. Knowledge of ASAM, DSM-IV, HIPPA and 42- CFR Part 2 and working with patients that have co- occurring conditions that can adversely affect treatment prognosis and outcomes.

Must attend all clinical staff meetings as well as all staff meetings out side normal scheduled hours.

QUALIFICATIONS:

CADC- R, and gain certification to CADC within 2 years of hire. If recovering from the disease of addiction, a minimum of two consecutive years of total abstinence from alcohol and other drugs is required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Certified Substance Abuse Counselor:

Basic Knowledge of: interviewing methods and techniques, case management principles and methods, professional ethics standards, Oregon State Licensed Substance Abuse Counselor scope of practice, substance abuse assessment instruments, and crisis intervention techniques; clinical diagnostic methods and principles and various modalities of counseling, psychotherapy, and abnormal psychology; criminal justice system, child welfare system and mental health system; federal, state and local ordinances and policies regarding therapeutic issues.

Basic Skill in: The practice dimensions as defined in TAP 21 published by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration which are clinical evaluation; treatment planning; referral; service coordination; counseling; client, family and community education; documentation; and professional and ethical responsibilities.

Working Skill in: reading, writing, and basic math; word processing and basic programs.

Ability to: Maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work activities; communicate effectively verbally and in writing; function in an unbiased manner with individuals from diverse backgrounds; coordinate multiple tasks effectively; maintain files, records, and reports; solve problems analytically

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Regularly: walks, stands, or stoops; lifts or otherwise moves objects weighing up to 10 pounds; drives a motor vehicle for transportation of clients.

Occasionally: lifts or otherwise moves objects weighing up to 20 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is typically performed in an environmentally controlled building. Work exposes incumbents to potentially hostile situations and may expose them to contagious or infectious diseases.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High School Diploma or Equivalent

Selected applicants will be subject to a background check.

Obtain First Aid and CPR card

Have TB test results

Job Title: Counselor In Training

Duration: Full-time, Six Month Introductory Period

Job Class: Non – Exempt

Compensation: $24.00 hourly

Pay Dates: 1st and 15th of every month

Job Type: Full-time
