We are currently searching for a dynamic Senior Commercial Lending Officer who will help provide local businesses and commercial real estate investors with solutions to their commercial financing needs.This role will lead the effort to expand PFCU’s commercial lending presence, as well as the overall market penetration of PFCU, by soliciting new business and retaining existing members to meet established loan quality and organizational goals. Responsible for meeting the needs and expectations of business members while promoting PFCU’s commercial lending products and services, maintaining and expanding superior Member relations and consistently meeting or exceeding assigned individual or team goals. Responsible for the growth and quality of the Commercial Lending portfolio, compliance with banking laws and regulations, and adherence to PFCU’s policies and procedures.


In this position you will handle:


  • New Business Generation & Origination: Solicit and develop a pipeline of new business to meet established loan quality, individual and organizational goals. Work closely with Branch Managers and Retail staff on developing commercial loan referrals. Apply a workout-mindset at origination to ensure defensive structuring.
  • Credit Analysis & Structuring: Interview loan applicants, gather and evaluate financial data to establish creditworthiness. Assess financial conditions of business members and industry trends. Demonstrate competency in interpreting financial statements, evaluating credit risks and understanding cash flow—especially commercial real estate and global cash flow. Negotiate terms and structure for all commercial loans, ensuring the structure meets PFCU’s risk appetite, profit measurements and aligns with the member’s long-term goals.
  • Loss Mitigation & Distressed Asset Management: Serve a key role in managing distressed, non-performing, watchlist, and special mention commercial loans to protect PFCU’s interests. Work closely with the VP, Commercial Lending Director to evaluate borrowers’ financial situations, lead meaningful discussions with borrowers regarding workout strategies, and negotiate loan modifications or repayment plans to maximize recovery and minimize loan losses. Coordinate with legal teams on strategies appropriate to each unique workout situation.
  • Relationship & Portfolio Management: Maintain member relations over the term of the lending relationship. Assist the Credit/Portfolio Management team in acting as the liaison during periodic credit reviews over the life of the loan. Proactively monitor portfolio health to identify early warning signs of distress.
  • Closing & Operations: Aid in the collection of necessary pre-closing documentation and work closely with Credit/Portfolio Management and Commercial Loan Operations on loan closings.


To be considered you will need:


  • Bachelor’s Degree required. May be substituted only with extensive related experience.
  • Formal credit training preferred. May be substituted by related experience in a credit or financial analyst role.
  • 5 plus years of Commercial Real Estate Lending experience preferred with strong COI's
  • Strong working knowledge of credit structuring on a myriad of commercial lending transactions including, but not limited to, financing of commercial real estate, owner occupied real estate, working lines of credit, equipment loans, unsecured and secured term loans. 
  • A thorough understanding of all aspects of the commercial loan transaction is expected including the ability to make recommendations on credit approval, loan pricing, collateral decisions, and structure.
  • Proven track record of prospecting new business, enhancing existing relationships and meeting or exceeding sales goals. 
  • Must possess highly effective communication skills.
  • Must have an outstanding level of written communication skills and have to the ability to write clearly, concisely and completely while adhering to internal and external regulatory requirements.
  • Must have the ability and passion to conduct extensive research on an ongoing basis regarding many banking matters.
  • Must have in depth knowledge of commercial lending rules and regulations.
  • Must possess the ability to remain calm, patient, objective, and professional when presented with difficult situations.
