What are the responsibilities and job description for the Inside Sales Representative – Steam & Hot Water Group position at Power Equipment Company?
About Us
Since 1927, Power Equipment Company has been a trusted name in industrial equipment across the Mid-South. As a family-owned business, we've built our reputation on long-term relationships — with the customers we serve and the people who work here.
We specialize in compressed air, pumps, boilers, and steam and hot water systems, offering complete solutions from new equipment and parts to service, start-up, and rentals. Our team supports end users, contractors, and engineers across healthcare, manufacturing, chemical processing, food & beverage, and higher education throughout the region, providing the technical expertise and hands-on support that keep their operations running.
Position Overview
We're looking for a driven, customer-focused Inside Sales Representative to join our Steam & Hot Water Group, with the opportunity to support our Pump Group as well. At the core of this role is building customer relationships — customers count on us to get them accurate and timely answers, whether that's confirming a part number, checking on order status, or tracking down a lead time.
Success in this role comes from the relationships you build. On the customer side, that means being a responsive, trusted point of contact who follows through. On the vendor side, it means developing strong working relationships with our manufacturer partners so you can get quotes, technical answers, and order updates back to customers quickly and accurately. You'll process orders, coordinate shipments, and manage the details that keep business moving.
Working along side our outside sales team and manufacturers when a request needs more technical input to help determine the right solution.
This is a role for someone who's organized, communicates well, and takes ownership of taking care of customers.
What You'll Do
- Serve as a responsive, reliable point of contact for customers via phone and email, following through until their request is resolved
- Collect and document customer information, specifications, and order details accurately
- Confirm part numbers and identify direct replacements for customer equipment
- Process customer orders and place purchase orders with manufacturers
- Coordinate drop-ship orders directly to customers
- Track order status, lead times, and shipment updates, proactively communicating any changes to customers
- Coordinate inbound inventory and customer-supplied product into the warehouse, and manage outbound shipping to customers
- Sell directly from company stock/inventory
- Build strong working relationships with manufacturer partners to get quotes, technical answers, and order updates back to customers quickly
- Recognize when a customer request requires more technical input, and loop in the outside sales team or manufacturers to help determine the right solution
- Maintain organized, accurate records of customer accounts, orders, and communications
What We're Looking For
- Prior experience in inside sales, customer service, or order processing (industrial or technical products a plus)
- Strong follow-through — you don't let a customer request sit without an answer or a next step
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with customers and vendors alike
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple orders, quotes, and customer requests at once
- Comfortable building and maintaining relationships with manufacturer partners to get timely answers
- Ability to recognize when a request needs technical input and confidently loop in the right people
- Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word) and comfort learning ERP/order entry and CRM systems
- Mechanical aptitude or interest in learning technical product lines (steam, hot water, and/or pumps) a plus, but not required
- A customer-first mindset with a sense of ownership over getting things right
Join us to be part of a vibrant team dedicated to delivering innovative steam & hot water solutions.
