Job Summary
PCS Inc. is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Construction Foreman to lead crews on Department of Transportation (DOT), city and county projects across Mississippi. We specialize in the installation, maintenance, and repair of traffic signal systems and roadway lighting infrastructure. As a leader on the job site, you will be responsible for supervising daily operations, ensuring all work meets rigorous MDOT standards, and maintaining the highest safety and quality control protocols. This role requires extensive experience in heavy civil construction and a strong dedication to project success.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise, train, and manage construction crews and subcontractors on day-to-day operations, with a focus on traffic light and roadway lighting installations and repairs.
- Ensure all project activities adhere to blueprints, plans, and the Mississippi Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction, as well as specific MDOT traffic signal and lighting guidelines.
- Enforce all safety regulations, including OSHA and specific MDOT requirements for working with live electrical wiring, heavy equipment, and in active traffic zones.
- Coordinate the use of specialized heavy equipment, materials, and tools for traffic signal and lighting projects, such as bucket trucks, trenchers, and electrical testing equipment.
- Perform on-site inspections of traffic signal controllers, cabinets, electrical wiring, light poles, and other components to ensure quality craftsmanship.
- Communicate with project managers, MDOT inspectors, providing regular updates on project status.
- Manage project resources, including tracking labor, materials, and equipment usage to stay within the budget.
- Solve on-site problems related to personnel, scheduling, or materials to prevent delays.
- Complete all required daily reports and administrative documentation accurately.
- Respond to emergency situations involving traffic signals or roadway lighting during non-regular work hours.
Qualifications
- Experience: 5 years of hands-on experience in heavy civil or highway construction, with a focus on electrical, lighting, or signalization projects would be a plus. At least 3 years in a supervisory or foreman role is required.
- Skills:
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret civil and electrical blueprints and project specifications.
- Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
- In-depth knowledge of construction procedures, electrical wiring, specialized equipment, and safety guidelines related to traffic and roadway lighting.
- Aptitude in basic construction math and measurement.
- Licenses/Certifications:
- Valid Mississippi Driver's License; a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is preferred.
- OSHA 30 certification is preferred.
- International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) certifications are a plus.
- First Aid and CPR training is a plus.
- Physical Demands: Must be able to perform physically demanding tasks, lift heavy objects, and work outdoors in various weather conditions and heights.
