Structural Ironworker Foreman
Primary Purpose:
Supervises and coordinates activities of work crews engaged in erecting structural steel.
Typical Duties:
Marks locations for new holes to rectify errors. Directs workers to drill and ream new holes. Assist workers in performance of tasks, such as welding, bolting, and chipping, using portable power tools. Supervise and coordinate activities of assigned craft workers. Interpret specifications, blueprints, and job orders as needed for area of supervision. Understands, and has a working knowledge of methods of lifting equipment utilizing selections of cables, ropes, pulleys, winches, blocks and sheaves, according to weight and size of load to be moved. Interprets company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations, Establishes and adjusts work sequences to meet construction schedule using knowledge of capacities of equipment and assigned personnel. May study schedules and estimate worker-hour requirements for completion of job. Analyzes and resolves work problems. Maintain time records. May make cost estimates for contracts. May supervise workers engaged in erecting trusses, joists, metal decking, material handling systems (conveyors), bins and hoppers, precast concreate structural sections and architectural panels.
Requirements:
Working foreman should be able to: Visualize objects in three dimensions from drawings; Work under stress or pressure; Attain set standards of accuracy; Evaluate information based on measurable standards; and see details in objects or drawings and recognize slight differences in shapes or shadings. Physically, working foremen must be able to: Keep good balance and have no fear of heights; See well (either naturally or with correction); Coordinate the use of eyes, hands, and feet; Maintain physical strength and stamina; Use arms, hands, and legs fully; Push, pull and frequently lift and carry objects weighing 100 pounds or more; and stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb. Completion of apprenticeship program and/or appropriate journeyman experience required.
