TITLE: Guide - Snowbird Mountain Guides
LOCATION: Snowbird – Snowbird Center
STATUS: Seasonal, Part-time, Hourly
SCHEDULE: Variable
- Must be able to work any day of the week - maybe early morning, late evening, weekends, and holidays depending on business levels.
- Typical shift: 7 am to 3 pm/4 pm.
SUMMARY
As a Backcountry Guide with the Snowbird Mountain Guide Team, you will work under the direction of the Snowbird Mountain Guide Director and Snowbird’s Snow Safety Team. You will be responsible for providing a safe and enjoyable backcountry experience for our guests.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Guide groups safely in the backcountry using appropriate backcountry travel protocols and decision-making either as a solo guide or with a guiding team.
- Maintain group cohesion and decorum while skiing to optimize safety and facilitate quality of guest experience.
- Assist the clients when and where necessary to provide a safe and enjoyable experience.
- Upsell other Snowbird adventures and services.
- Communicate via radio and in-person with other Snowbird teams, including guides, instructors, cat operators, ski patrol and snow safety.
- While skiing is an integral part of being a ski guide, this position is heavily focused on risk management, communication, and guest interactions.
WHAT YOU NEED TO GET THE JOB DONE
- Must be an expert skier/rider with the ability to ski/ride in all conditions on mountain and in the backcountry.
- Ability to communicate effectively with and follow radio protocols.
- OEC, WFR, EMT, or equivalent medical responder certification.
- CPR certification
- AAI or AIARE Pro 1.
- AMGA Ski Guide Course desired
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- 2-4 years job-specific work experience as a guide with demonstrated competence in group management, guest service, risk management and data recording.
- Proven ability to apply safe travels protocols during periods of high stress.
- Proven ability to work with a team, follow instructions, and collaborate with team members.
WORK SCHEDULE
- Shifts vary and may include early morning, late evening, weekends, and holidays, depending on business levels.
- Season is typically December to Mid-April.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Be able to travel up the canyon at early hours when there is expected avalanche control work or before canyon road closures.
- Be ok about staying overnight at the resort if required.
- Work is outdoors and requires constant exposure to cold and other extreme weather conditions.
