What are the responsibilities and job description for the Academic/Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) Tutor 29575 position at Poway Unified School District?
**PUSD is looking for AVID Tutors who will serve as positive role models and encourage students to be the best they can be. The ideal candidate will be enrolled in a local college or university. High School students, age 16 or above may also apply. Daytime tutor hours (during the school day) vary by location.
Under the general supervision of a principal or designee and the immediate supervisor of a site teacher, AVID tutors will support students in the AVID elective class to help them achieve their academic goals. AVID tutors work with students in small groups and individually to help them improve their academic performance.
May perform any combination of the following at the school site:
Provide academic support via tutorial assistance to students.
Serve as positive role models for students.
Encourage high academic achievement.
Motivate students to continue in a college preparatory course of study throughout high school.
Discuss students' achievement with teachers.
Review student binders and notes to identify concepts that need to be taught.
Lead mini-lessons on writing, study skills, and other college preparation topics.
Create an engaging learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions.
Communicate with classroom teachers about course outlines and assignment schedules.
Participate in ongoing training provided by the district or school site.
Perform other duties as assigned by administrators and/or site coordinators/teachers, including working with individual students, leading group discussions, and grading AVID notebooks and Cornell notes.
RESPONSIBILITIES TO THE DISTRICT:
Must perform duties in a dependable, responsible manner, including:
Attend all tutor training sessions, meetings or other required events.
Report to the school site in accordance with the established hours of work which were agreed upon with the supervisor.
Report absences in the prescribed manner. (Contact your school site.)
Cooperate fully with district staff, site counselors, teachers and administrators.
