Job Summary

The Furnace Utility Operator plays a key role in monitoring and controlling firebox and cutting wheel operations to ensure safe and efficient plant performance.

Responsibilities

•     Monitor forehearth, firebox, and cutting wheel conditions

•     Record hourly readings for gas, oxygen, temperature, and water flow

•     Assist with switching out cutting wheels and forehearth bowl assemblies

•     Operate forklifts and front-end loaders (training available)

•     Transfer and weigh cullet bins; maintain cullet pad records

•     Perform visual and audible inspections of equipment

•     Create maintenance work requests and report safety concerns

•     Support batch house operations and collaborate with other departments

•     Maintain compliance with safety, environmental, and housekeeping standards

Qualifications

•     High School Diploma or GED required

•     3-5 years of industrial experience preferred (furnace or boiler operations ideal)

•     Forklift experience and/or certification preferred

•     Basic computer skills and ability to follow instructions

•     Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and teamwork skills

Physical & Environmental Conditions

•     Frequent standing, walking, climbing, and grasping

•     Exposure to high temperatures, dust, fumes, and moving machinery

•     Use of PPE including hard hat, safety boots, gloves, goggles, and respirators
