What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bowling Alley Operations Manager position at Potter's Alley?
Operations Shift Manager
Potter’s Alley | Morton, Illinois
Potter’s Alley is seeking a dependable, hands-on Operations Shift Manager to help run our busy, independently owned 16-lane bowling center.
This is an active role that combines shift leadership, customer service and daily operations. You’ll lead a small crew, work alongside employees and step in wherever needed to keep the facility running smoothly.
When you’re running the shift, you’re responsible for the building, the team and the customer experience.
What You’ll Do
- Open and close the facility independently.
- Lead employees, assign tasks and follow through to ensure work is completed.
- Operate the front desk, point-of-sale system and lane-management software.
- Check in customers, assign lanes and issue rental shoes.
- Coordinate reservations, parties and league activity.
- Assist in the kitchen during busy periods, including basic food preparation and cooking.
- Provide friendly, professional service and resolve routine customer concerns.
- Ensure employees follow established procedures.
- Handle cash accurately and complete end-of-shift balancing.
- Maintain cleanliness, food-safety and responsible alcohol-service standards.
- Resolve everyday operational issues and recognize when owner involvement is needed.
- Leave the facility clean, organized and ready for the next day’s business.
What We’re Looking For
Bowling-center experience is not required—we can teach you bowling operations. We’re looking for someone who brings reliability, sound judgment and the ability to lead a shift.
The right candidate will be:
- Dependable and consistently on time.
- Comfortable taking responsibility for the facility during a shift.
- Able to lead employees respectfully and communicate expectations clearly.
- Willing to work alongside the crew and help when needed.
- Comfortable in a busy customer-service environment.
- Able to prioritize when several things need attention at once.
- Willing to ask questions and seek guidance when unsure.
- Consistent about following established procedures.
- Comfortable handling cash and completing basic reconciliation.
- Available to work evenings and weekends.
Experience in restaurant, hospitality, retail, grocery, convenience-store or other shift-management roles can translate well to this position.
Current food handler and BASSET certifications are required before hire.
Schedule
This position primarily requires evening and weekend availability. Friday, Saturday and Sunday availability is required, as these are our busiest days.
You will have two days off each week, scheduled Monday through Thursday. Days off may not be consecutive.
Our busiest season runs from September through April. Scheduled hours may vary with business needs and seasonal volume.
