What are the responsibilities and job description for the Reading Intervention Specialist position at Potter Gray Elementary School?
For the 2026-2027 School Year
Must hold KY Elementary Education Certification.
Performance Responsibilities:
1. Provide small group intervention for primary students who need assistance in reading.
2. Collaborate with classroom teachers to improve the teaching of literacy throughout the school.
3. Work with the principal to appropriately administer grant funds.
4. Prepare a budget each year for the use of grant money.
5. Attend relevant trainings/conferences as required by RTA and as needed to improve instructional practice.
6. Order, receive, and distribute assessment materials.
7. Ensure all staff is properly trained in the administration of assessments.
8. Ship booklets.
9. Retrieve and print score reports for teachers.
10. Maintain data on MGT site.
11. Work with the data coordinator to analyze and interpret data from assessment and monitor student progress.
12. Reflect on and evaluate specific teaching and learning situations and/or programs.
13. Responsible for safekeeping of school furniture, instructional supplies, materials, equipment, and facilities.
14. Participate in faculty meetings, team meetings, departmental meetings, committees, and the sponsorship of student co-curricular activities as assigned.
15. Remain at school during the entire school day unless excused by the Principal for emergency reasons.
16. Prepare proper reports and schedules well in advance for use in implementing the instructional program.
17. Report any unusual occurrence or event to the Principal immediately (riot, epidemic, bomb threat, thefts, child abuse, etc.)
18. Supervise students during in-class and out-of classroom activities during the assigned working day.
19. Administer individual and group assessments in accordance with the district and school assessment program.
20. Demonstrate positive interpersonal relations by interacting effectively with and demonstrating respect for the views, rights and contributions of parents, teachers and other school personnel.
21. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to ensure the safety of students and staff.
22. Adhere to the professional Codes of Ethics adopted by the Kentucky Education Professional Standards Board.
23. Administer health services to students as necessary including, but not limited to, the administration of medication; the operation, maintenance, or health care through the use of medical equipment; or the administration of clinical procedures.
24. Maintain appropriate professional appearance.
25. Act as a consistent positive public relations agent for school and district programs and activities.
26. Maintain confidentiality of information regarding individual students and their families.
27. Implement and adhere to all rules and regulations, policies, administrative guidelines, and directives as adopted by the Board of Education, Principal, Administrative Staff, Superintendent and School Based Decision Making Council.
28. Maintain acceptable personal attendance without repeated unexcused absences, tardiness, absences without notification, or abuse of sick leave.
29. Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the Principal, Administrative Staff, or Superintendent of Schools.
